6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Challenges We Face:

  • Since the launch of the Bangla Wikivoyage site, there has been a significant addition of copyrighted content due to a lack of awareness about the policy, along with the creation of many pages that do not comply with the guidelines (e.g., non-travel articles). As a result, the number of articles decreased significantly after these pages were removed or redirected.
  • Many important travel destinations still lack informative pages.
  • Despite having 226 million Bengali native speakers worldwide, awareness of this project is minimal.
  • We lack an active community. Some members of our communication channels have indicated they are unaware of the project's policies and editing procedures, which has led to a lack of interest in contributing.

Proposed Solutions:

  • We will conduct an online workshop (not included in the budget) to educate participants on how to edit Wikivoyage and understand basic policies. * To foster a sense of community, we will organize a contest.
  • As part of the contest, we will create information-rich travel guides for popular destinations.
  • We will promote Wikivoyage to a wider audience through contest campaigns and calls for contributions, using central notice, village pump announcements, mass messages, mailing lists, and social media platforms.
  • To ensure the community's sustainability, we will arrange regular online meetups after the contest (not included in the budget).
7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We will translate travel guide pages for popular destinations from other language versions of Wikivoyage, primarily from the English Wikivoyage. In cases where information is not available in other language projects, we will create our own content. This contest will run throughout the month of October. You can find the contest project page here: https://bn.wikivoyage.org/wiki/উইকিভ্রমণ:নিবন্ধ_প্রতিযোগিতা_২০২৪.

As the competition progresses, we will continue the review process and ensure that the reviews are completed and prizes issued within the grant timeframe.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

Our target community is the Bangla Wikimedia community. Our goal is to mobilize existing contributors, attract new ones, and ensure their sustained involvement. We will promote the competition through central notice, village pump announcements, mass messages, mailing lists, and social media platforms. Throughout and after the contest, participants will stay connected via the contest talk page, Telegram, and email. Additionally, we will conduct a workshop before the contest begins.
