Proposal[edit]

1. What is the overall vision of your organization and how does this proposal contribute to this? How does this proposal connect to past work and learning?

Our vision for this podcast is to keep it as opened as possible, use the platform to train, advocate and also grow the community of editors, engage various topics of interest and discuss issue that the movement can sync it activities to.

2. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important?

The community podcast is solving a knowledge gap by capacity building, advocacy approaches which will lead to a broad knowledge of understanding of various campaigns and projects in the wiki space.

3. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The strategies that we will deploy for our project are us follows;

1. Partnerships: One of the key strategies the team and I would be looking at is partnerships with usergroups & non-usergroups. This is to enable as to increase our reach and also involve community and non- community members as well.
2. Communication: With communication as a strategy, we decided to involve other sub tools that would also increase our reach, such as

a. Social Media Engagement b. Distribution Service c. Channel for Recording

3. Community Engagement: Community engagement as a useful strategy by partaking in projects and campaigns that will tell community stories and grow activities in the community.
4. Podcast tools Upgrade: We want to increase the number of tools and equipment we use for podcasting, which is increasing our Hardware & Software to aide us have good production or do a good work.
5. Article Building List: Article building list as one of our strategies, where we will ensure that we will make various list of articles available in terms of our partnerships with various communities and beyond.
6. Topics of Impacts: Topic lists that the podcast will focus on during interviews with speakers eg Climate :Triple Planetary Crisis and more
7. Documentation of Process: We will make sure that our works are properly documented and structured on commons for usage by various communities.
8. Recruiting Newcomers: Through our podcast we will use the platform to recruit newcomers into the communities and share them among existing communities.

4. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

1. International Podcast: International podcast day is a period for podcasting where any story in-terms of advocacy in the movement through storytelling can be made available to the movement.


2. African Wiki Challenge: Engaging in the campaign building article list and also hearing the diverse stories from various community members.


3. Emerging Languages: We are looking at working with Ghana Pidgin & Fante Language communities and how far they are engaging on climate project and beyond that.


4. WikiForHumanRight: As we did last year we are going to do a better work this year, by engaging more campaigns that is going engage/participate in this project and the kind of impact they would have at the end of the project.

a. Wiki-GreenCon: As part of our activities of WikiForHumanRight, we have decided to engage Wiki-Green Con campaign and how they are making a difference in their engagement. b. Climate Article Build Up: As part of our engagement with communities around wikiforhumanright we will be building articles for organizers who are running campaign under climate.

5. World Day Celebration: So for the movement and other communities of which we engaged in this project last year. We are doing world day celebration involving and engaging the world to tell interesting stories linking it to the movement and beyond. List of our international day celebration below:

a. World Clean-up Day: We engage members of the community and beyond during the world clean-up day and we also engage school as well.

b. Womens Day Celebration: As we did last year, we will engage women and ensure that they tell their story and how it’s has an impact on the movement and beyond.

c. International Podcast Day: Engaging community to celebrate podcasters and beyond. [1]

d. World Pingolin Day: Celebrating biodiversity by bringing in host to speak to it.

e. World Mangrove Day: Celebrating mangrove day as part of our movement engagement.

f. International Day for The Environment: As part of our advocacy work, we will travel during this period to speak to bodies and how they are having an impact on the movement and beyond.

g. World Radio Day: Pushing open movement activities during this day through advocacy.

h. International Day for The Youth: World Youth Day has become very essential to the movement in-terms of capacity building and beyond.


6. AfroCine Project: Engaging participant and organizers who are engaged in running this campaign for years, in-terms of telling the African stories through movies
7. SoundLogo: Speaking to the team on what the future of the sound logo is all about and it’s impacts.
8. Wikipedia Asian Month: Engaging the organizers and participants through storytelling.

From January to December, we will be having various podcast interviews and discussion. As compared to our previous work of producing two (2) works in a month we will be looking at increasing production works from two (2) to three (3) interviews in a month and we will also have some essential stories that we will slide in because it is of essence to the community.

We currently are putting proper structure to the interviews and dates, we have not yet had the number of speakers or guest, but all will be fine-tuned or structured very by well mid-February.

7. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

1. Jwale2: Podcast producer, he will lead the production and podcast creation.

2. NanaYawBotar: Marketing, campaigns, distribution to various digital stores.
3. Joris Darlington Quarshie: Providing insights in relation to technical support.

As a result of the Wiki Update podcast partnership with various usergroups in the ecosystem and beyond we seek to cover the space of providing article lists and also encourage contributors to contribute. We are also engaging highly distinguished personalities on record, who will provide us with details which will be essential for the community to use as a result of advocacy in order to close the content gap and beyond that.

11. What are your strategies for engaging participants, particularly those that currently are non-Wikimedia?

So for those who are non-wikimedians, we will have them provide insights on various projects or campaign that they are doing because their works directly or indirectly affects wikimedia movement, looking at the movement strategy.

We also use that us an opportunity to train them on how to use various tools in the moment and also show them how to edit along with the policies that governs engagement with editing in other to avoid conflict of interest.

12. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants and promoting the UCOC and Friendly Space Policy, and/or equivalent local policies and processes?

The UCOC will be adopted in the conversation with speakers on the podcast and would also be made available on the Wiki Update meta page. [2]

Also partnering and working with organizers when building pages like meta, we make sure that we enshrine the FPS/UCOC so that everyone can have the opportunity and space to operate freely.

Sustainability of this project is by sharing past activities or engagement to the community.

Another way of sustaining the project is by continually engaging speakers in various spaces in climate and beyond to tell their stories

1. Internet instability- Having a buck-up support to engage with the community/guest during instability moment.
2. Transportation - Having a budget or specific amount for transportation as a result of increase in fuel prices, We will depend on the contingency.
3. Accommodation- Some of the places we book in other to meet guest to have discussion increase as result of fuel prices. Our solution is for us to depend on the contingency.

19. What do you hope to learn from your work in this fund proposal?

What I am looking forward to learn is:

1. Who are our audience: The kind of audience listening to the podcast.
2. Topics of interest: Kind of topics they would like to listen to, in our earlier studies we had more listeners when it comes topics like Wikimania 2022, Wiki Indaba and other events are some of the topics that have high views and would looking forward to learning more from what and why is prompting their decision in listening.
3. We will be introducing something new this year thus having a solid website for wiki update and we will be looking forward to see how impactful it will be to the community in relation to activities surrounding the podcast.
4. Article Build List: Building articles for the communities in other to grow their contributions.
