Review your report

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?[edit]

Edit-a-thons will be held on November 23, 2019, February 29, 2020, and at least three more (20 to 30 participants expected each). The theme of edit-a-thons will be to improve Wikipedia articles about women and their traditional culture in Northern Kyoto prefecture area.

2.How will you let your community know about the event?[edit]

Call for Participants will be posted on a Facebook group, an outreach activities page on Japanese Wikipedia, as well as local newspapers and FM radio.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?[edit]

Other than me, two to three familiar veteran Wikipedians are ready to help. However, we need two nights stay and travel expense each are essential to join a whole day event, due to remote location.

4.参加者は、参加に必要な、あるいは品質が高いコンテンツを寄稿するのに必要な、機材やスキルを持ち合わせていますか? 持ち合わせていない場合は、どのようにサポートするつもりですか?[edit]

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?[edit]

We already held three edit-a-thons in this region since September 2018. Through participating these former edit-a-thons, at least 10 participants already have essential equipment and skills to contribute high quality articles. For first time participants, up to one PC and three tablets are available. Experienced Wikipedians teach carefully for such new participants in terms of skills. Book materials for contents are well-ready to be provided from at least three public libraries.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?[edit]

I am hosting a Facebook group named "edit Tango", where we can contact with participants after such events, as well as providing information on essential skills for contents creation and edit. Also providing edit-a-thons nearby and other training events. We also support future hosts of edit-a-thons.

Thank you.

For example, the expenses of an event we held on May 26, 2019 were as follows. Total cost per event: $982

  1. Rental Wi-fi-Cellular router: $27
  2. Venue: $50
  3. Drinks: $25
  4. Travel expenditures and hotel: $880 (for 2 persons)

Previous transportation expenses for one Wikipedian to attend an event was about $220. In another case, transportation cost was about $380. Hotel costs for $70 x 2 nights x 2 persons equal $280. To keep quality of contributed articles, we need at least two helper veteran Wikipedians to support participants. Due to remote location, stays before and after the actual event day are essential for such assistants.

  • I strongly support this project. The project host is also one of the prominent Wikimedians recently discovered from similar edit-a-thons described above. They know how first-time editors will feel anxious to edit Wikipedia, as well as how to lead them with experienced technique to "digest" materials, to contribute high quality content. --Takot (talk) 15:05, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
