Project Goal[edit]

  5. To educate potential editors about naming of pictures on commons so pictures don't get lost or become inaccessible on commons.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?

One (1) Separate walks/tours

2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?

The photo walks will focus on capturing images of Ghanaian landscape from one selected regions. There is not much content of landscape photos from some regions Ghana. So this walk will see to the addition of such content. This will also be an avenue to reach out and increase participation from members. We intend to:

1. Educate people about Creative Commons license and copyright laws. 2. Introduce new participants to Wikimedia projects such as wiki loves monuments, wiki loves africa etc. that have been going on 3. to document and share culture on commons. 4. Teach people some basic photography skills to enable them contribute quality images and good captions for commons.


3. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

4. How will you let participants know about the photowalk? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Publicity of this contest will be made through our social media pages (whatsapp, Facebook,Instagram, telegram, twitter etc)

Another method will be by word of mouth "tell a friend to tell a friend". Newsletters (emails)

5. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?

Articles on wikipedia that needs images, some of these images will be used.

6. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Some participants have professional cameras, and those without camera or proper image taking devices, camera will be rented out to help make the walk a successful one.

Sadik Shahadu will handle communication on social media. I Gabriel Joe Amuzu a wikimedian and photographer who has experience in organizing photowalks will oversee all the activities of the project. Mwinitrew an active wikimedian in the Ghanaian community will coordinate the project report.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

There will be an upload section where participants will be taking through the structure of wikimedia commons and how it works and devices they can use to take pictures and also educate them on how to participate in the ongoing Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest.

8. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of participants 20 people
  2. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons 200
  3. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects at least 20% of photos will be used on wikimedia projects.

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

Sadik Shahadu Will handle communication on social media since he has the technical know how so I included him to handle that.

I Gabriel Joe Amuzu a wikimedian and photographer who has experience in organizing photowalks will oversee all the activities of the project. Mwinitrew an active wikimedian in the Ghanaian community will coordinate the project report. Emmanuel Yeboah a wikimedian will facilitate during the upload session and also assist with logistics. .Patience Owusu-Ansah a wikimedian will handle logistics.
