For the project: She Whoo? the edit-a-thon that is part of the Art+Feminism Campaign 2021, we aim to:

  1. Recruit new editors:connect the people that follow the collective orlando and participated in the process of making the zine with wikipedia and edit-a-thons, spread of the art&feminism campaign
  2. Increase skills for existing editors: by writing independent articles
  3. Add or improve content: upload and improve content of female and queer poets and writers

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are planning one edit-a-thon online that focuses on the representation of queer and female poets and writers.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

We post notifications on the portals for WikiWomen project and Art+Feminism, Orlando Collective, Who_writes_history and Athens Museum of Queer Arts asking for support to develop work lists and to volunteer to be mentors to new editors during the editathon series. There have been discussions on GenderGap mailing lists where we have asked for advice from people who have run similar editathon series. We have used our local mailing list to find experienced editors to volunteer at the editathons.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

On our team we have experienced editors to help lead editathons and to support participants and we will have edit instructions for new members, and there is always an great event planner who will be in charge of event logistics.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Due to the pandemic we host the edit-a-thon online. We have hosted similar online edit-a-thons in the past and through this experience we have a session arranged in finding and sharing resources like books and magazines, with open access online between the participants. Each participant would provide their own laptops and internet connection.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

There is already a community built up from past edit-a-thons and there is always a follow-up questions mail and also communication of future projects through the email list and Facebook and instagram account of the orlando collective.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

We will host online.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events:1
  2. Number of participants: 30
  3. Number of new editors: 5-10
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: 20-30
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

We have experienced Wikimedians who will attend all the events, two event planners and one person for technical problems that may occur.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

Food and drink = $18 x 2 days x 30 people = $1080
Follow up and thank you artists postcards= §7 x30 people = $210
Total = 1,290 USD
