Clarissagum/Black Music Month Celebration 2022 in Nigeria
Black Music Month is an annual celebration of black music in June. The month of June is set aside to appreciate the contribution of black musicians, singers, composers and songwriters. The month honors the history and rich black traditions that gave birth to different styles of music such as jazz, hip-hop, rap, barbershop, swing and rhythm and blues. The month also celebrate creative inspiration and appreciate the impact that black music had had on generations of performers and music lovers, from tales of slavery, racism and fighting for their basic human rights in their lyrics.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

The contest with the theme "Photos in Black" will focus on adding missing freely-licensed photos of notable Nigerian Musicians in Wikimedia Commons while also illustrating the articles with the uploaded photos on English Wikipedia. Black Music Month Celebration 2022 in Nigeria is an online contest that will be conducted to create and improve contents about Black Music in Nigeria.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have notified members of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. See here for the notice.

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

The contest will be announced on Nigeria Wikimedia WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms to ensure participation.

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.

The photos of the contest will be judged by a team comprising of experienced Wikipedians. The participant with the highest points will be awarded the first prize.

The scoring system for the winners would be as follows:

  • 2.0 points would be awarded for every new quality photo added to Wikipedia article about Nigerian Musicians

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

List of Nigerian Musicians articles missing photos will be provided and participants will source for freely-licensed photos available on the web and offline to upload in Wikimedia Commons.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

For photo contests:

  1. Number of participants: 20
  2. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 100
  3. Number of photos used on English Wikipedia: 100
