Project Goal
[edit]Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed. You can add details to each goal.
- To add freely licensed, and quality images of Ghanaian monuments to Wikimedia Commons.
- To engage new and existing members of the Ghanaian community.
- To recruit new contributors to Wikimedia Commons
- To increase or improve images on Wikimedia Common
- To provide images that complement articles that already exist but without images.
Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?
We intend to have three (3) photo-expeditions and an upload session/edit-a-thon, we anticipate a total of 14 and 30 participants respectively. The three photo-expeditions will cover the regions that have most of their monuments uncovered and the upload/edit-a-thon session will afford many the opportunity to upload the pictures taken while we try to put articles or improve already existing articles about the various scenery visited.
- Photo-expedition to the Ashanti Region - This will cover all the major monumental sites that have not been covered.
- Photo-expedition to the Greater Accra Region - Even in the Greater Accra Region there are lots of monuments still not captured.
- Photo-expedition to the Western Region - This will cover all the major monumental sites that have not been covered yet in both the Central and Western Region.
You may further find details of monumental sites that need to be covered here
2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?
The agenda for the expedition will be geared towards acquiring pictures of monuments as it is the main focus of the campaign. However other pictures of historical benefits will be captured as these are likely to be gotten at the places of visit.
3. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?
We intend to host one upload/edit-a-thon where pictures taken will be uploaded. Also information from visited scenery's will be used in writing new articles or improving existing articles. Articles that already exist but have no pictures too will be furnished with adequate pictures.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Our partnership with Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) will give us access to a photography group called PhotoWalkGh. This group will provide experience in photography and equipment at the event.
- Also a group of local map reviewers have been contacted through our network partner to assist in mapping and taking photos.
- The group also possesses the community camera which will be used as part of the project.
5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
We acquired an MOU from the Ghana Monuments Board as part of the GLAM Ghana Project which will apply and or be useful at the sites we will be visiting. It will afford us the opportunity to really be informed by tour guides and remove payment of entrance fees to such sites.
