Hausa Wikipedia Workshop
This project is a 3 days workshop for 3 local Government of kaduna state, which include kaduna north, kaduna south and igabi. It will educate, enligh and bring to table Wikipedia and it activity to Hausa community. This is because a large number of Hausa people are on the internet but without or with limited knowledge about Wikipedia and its activity.

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
There is a lot of Hausa people, Hausa community that are on the internet and this large number, most of them are not aware about Wikipedia and its angle of editing. They don't know they can edit and contribute to develop Wikipedia, Hausa language and Hausa culture at large.

This workshop will teach Hausa community how to edit Wikipedia and contribute their quarter in developing Wikipedia and its community.

This workshop will put people in halls and teach them thorougly on how to edit Wikipedia, and how they can be able to insert knowledge of thier local culture in other to the benefit the world, for free.

Project goals

What are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
To Encourage youth to edit Wikipedia, youth now are the backborn of internet. They are everywhere surfing the internet, its a goal of this workshop to carry youths along in editing Wikipedia.

To encourage women to edit Wikipedia, this workshop will carry women along to participate in editing Wikipedia so as to bridge the gap between genders.

To encourage Hausa community to come along in editing Wikipedia and help in sharing the free knowledge from their cultural views.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

  1. Me and the other volunteers we will invite people from kaduna metropolis to this work shop, and we will teach them to edit Wikipedia.
  2. This workshop will be a 3 days workshop where we will do it for 3 local government in kaduna state which include kaduna north, kaduna south, and igabi.
  3. We will use social media to create awareness about the workshop. Most people in our community are familiar and used facebook better. So we will focus on facebook and other social media outlets whatsap, twitter and instagram.
  4. We will start the workshop on 10th march 2021 to 28th march 2021. Organizing one days workshop for each of the 3 local government in Kaduna.
  5. At the end of the project we will create a platform to stay intourch with the new editors such as whatsap group and the already existance facebook group we have.

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings? I will be doing a series of training in 3 local government. 1 training for each local government making it 3 workshop training.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions. I have inform Hausa community in hausa Wikipedia main page already. And i intent to use Facebook and WhatsApp to inform the community.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Yes User:anasskoko and User:Aliyu shaba will help in leading the project.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes most participants have mobile phones, so the only support they might need is data during the trainings.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

I will create a WhatsApp group in other to keep them engaged and it will be a space for them to ask questions where necessary.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. 7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

this project will cover 3 local government in Kaduna state, which include Kaduna south, igabi and Kaduna North. It will be a 6 days training work shop.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  • This project will bring in at least 50 new editors.
  • 50 articles will be created as I mentioned earlier.
  • I will teach hausa community how to edit Wikipedia with this workshop, and I will create a system for them to feel free and ask questions relating to Wikipedia so as the editing becomes easy to them.
  • I will create a whatsapp group where everyone can ask questions regarding wikipedia during and even after the workshop.
  • this workshop will bring in new editors that will continue to edit Wikipedia even after the project. At least 50 new editors.
  • this workshop will make sure 50 articles are being created in hausa wikipedia.

3 event will be conducted, 1 for each local government.

At least 30 participants each.

At least 50 new editors.

50 articles will be created and many more will be improved.

5.Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)

At least 20 depending on the proximity of the halls the events will be taking place.

Budget

Transportation, data, computers to be used, refreshment halls, facemask and hand sanitizer.

  1. Transportation will coast 280 USD
  2. Data will coast 300 USD
  3. Computer and projector will coast 240 USD
  4. Refreshment will coast 280 USD
  5. Hall for 3 days will coast 500 USD
  6. Facemask And Sanitizer will coast 200 USD
  7. TOTAL 1800 USD.

1. I will create awareness about the workshop online via Facebook, twitter, WhatsApp. And personal meetings.

2. Am targeting hausa community, and this is because large number of hausa native speakers are on the internet but with less or limited knowledge about Wikipedia and its activity.

3.through invitation and an avenue for anyone to attend the workshop.

I participate in Hausa Wikipedia awareness in Kaduna. I participate in online Hausa Wikipedia awareness project. I'm the first position winner in decolonise the internet contest. Im the third position winner in WPWP Hausa Wikipedia contest. I have hundreds edit in hausa Wikipedia.

2 User: Anasskoko An experience editor with thousands of edit both in English and Hausa Wikipedia. Organizer of online Hausa Wikipedia project. Organizer Bibliography and Citation of Hausa folklore. Event planner. Second position winner in wikiGap.

3. User: Aliyu shaba An editor in Hausa Wikipedia, Participated in online Hausa Wikipedia awareness. Participate in Bibliography and citation of Hausa folklore. Field researcher.
