  2. Increase skills for existing editors in Namibia
  3. Add or improve content

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are going to have a series of editathons.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Planning_Wikimedia_Community_User_Group_Namibia You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Tweeter: Velishavo_Hipangwa @v_hipangwa Facebook: Martin V Hipangwa Instagram: hipangwa

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We will use WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram platforms and radio stations to market the training for better participation in the event.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants don’t have relevant skills to edit Wikipedia, some targeted participants are students and librarians and there is a chance that they have laptops of their own while some of them don’t have laptops or means to access Wikipedia apart from their cell phones. The project shall facilitate the internet and transportation provision for all the participants and to source laptops to use during the training to make sure that all participants grab all the skills.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We shall keep a database of all the participants and keep a mailing list for easy communication after the event. We will also add the participants to the existing WhatsApp group for instant communication.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1D0LxAQ5IK-UbwwGYCgQy0jgY8YgZpP4xv6NZ1F02wPU/edit#gid=1277460076

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

We don’t have a community user group in Namibia. We would like this event to be a strong foundation for the establishment of a stronger community user group in Namibia.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events:3
  2. Number of participants:36
  3. Number of new editors:36
  4. Number of of articles created or improved:40
