WACN - Part 1

Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes, we can proudly say that we met our goals. As mentioned in our proposal, we have raised awareness about Wikipedia in two different cities, i.e. Janakpur and Biratnagar. We managed to install static and digital billboards at different main places within the cities. We successfully promoted our project via several social media(s) and local news industry. We have also organized the very first meetup with the team member(s) and involved member(s) at the end.

Absolutely! we are very happy with how the project went. We managed to achieve our project plans and goals. The output impact is appreciated by all of our team members.

Plans

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

Billboards Designing

[edit]

Our WACN team counseled, and had our billboards design ready by Zakir Raza. Onward, we send it for printings and installation.

Installation of Billboards

[edit]
Janakpur, Province no. 2, Nepal

We managed to install Maithili Wikipedia promotional billboards in the main places of Janakpur, Province no. 2, Nepal.

Biratnagar, Province no. 1, Nepal

We managed to install digital as well as static Maithili/Nepali Wikipedia promotional billboards in the main places of Biratnagar, Province no. 1, Nepal. The campaign's most challenging task was to install digital billboards around the city. Digital billboards helped us quite a lot to reach among people of Biratnagar to introduce them with Maithili/Nepali Wikipedia in short Wikipedia as a whole. We have successfully raised awareness of Wikipedia, and tired our best to engage new readers.

We have discussed on: what worked well, what didn't worked well, and what would we do differently next time. We have also talked about the further plans of WACN in which we planned to organize The Calendar Initiative and The Interview Initiative.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
Most importantly team efforts then after designing, installation, promotion, meetup etc. in short all plans worked as expected.
  • What did not work so well?
  1. Time management - Rough timeline for the project didn't worked a bit.
  2. Photography - As we don't own any camera.
  • What would you do differently next time?
We would focus on getting more reach among people. Next time, we will get some more social/news media promotion. We will also choose several highly populated cities to install billboards, and raise awareness of Wikipedia.
