Having successfully completed Wiki Loves SDGs Nigeria project, WikiAct4SDGs Nigeria is proposed to consolidate and keep existing editors and new editors active on the successes gained and also improve on the shortfalls of the previous projects. This project still retains the aims of Signing Up, and improve/edit articles, Engage SDGs Advocates and Introduce old editors to Wikimedia project-Wikidata. This will also keep members of the Nigerian Sustainability Group active during and after the global of #GlobalGoalsWeek 2021.

Project Goal[edit]

  1. Add or Improve SDGs' related content about Nigeria to Wikipedia and WikiData
  2. Recruit new editors.
  3. Engage existing Wikimedians for Sustainable Development in Nigeria editors.
  4. Engage SDGs Crusaders in Nigeria on how to bridge the content gap on SDG on Wikipedia with a focus on Nigeria related content
  5. Training selected SDGs' crusaders in Nigeria on how to contribute to Wikipedia
  6. Teach the participants the use of Wikidata to create link-data

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are organizing a series of edit-a-thon and training on the SDGs in Nigeria.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

We have an already existing WikiLovesSDGs Nigeria: Telegram and WhatsApp groups. Besides, we have a mailing list of past participants, we will inform existing wikipedians via mails and we will also run a Social Media Ads via Our handle is @WikiLovesSDGsNG to notify new interested participants.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

James Moore200 and Prithee P were both Top 9 Winners During the Global Goals Event for 2020 #WikiLovesSDGS. Besides, the both worked with other volunteers to carry out the localized events in Nigeria, which held in April and March, 2021. 5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes, we have designed the event to accommodate only prospective participants with working devices.
Internet will be provided at the venue for the participants at the training.
Experienced Wikimedians will be available to guide the prospective participants throughout the entire period of the event on how to produce quality content.
Virtual Support will be given to online participants so as not to repeat the previous mistake during WIki Loves SDGs Projects.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Participants will be onboarded to either Telegram or WhatsApp to engage/mentor participants on issues related to content created during the event. We already have an existing groups for communication on both: Telegram and WhatsApp.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
