Wiki Kata (Malay for Wiki Word) is a national edit-a-thon about digitizing words of indigenous languages found in Malaysia through Malay Wiktionary. Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia will run the competition from 1st July - 31st July 2020. The aim for this competition is to document indigenous languages in Malaysia which are lacking online.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content gaps will you be filling with the equipment?

Our user group is working to improve more contents on Malaysia and Wikimedia projects in indigenous languages of Malaysia. We need to organise more trainings and meetups for new editors online.


2. What activities will you organize in the next 6 months to create content and use it on Wikimedia projects?

We will organise 1 online training and 1 online meetup per month minimum.


3. How will the equipment be shared/tracked/cared for by members of your community?

Once we paid for the premium version for the platforms, our team will have access to this platforms to organise the events.


4. How long will the equipment be used, and by whom?

We expect the online platforms to be used more than once a month to organise online events.


5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project? Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia wants to be more active in engaging the Malaysian community. Hence, there is a need to organise more online events such as trainings and meetups for future and existing volunteers. By having these premium platforms such as Zoom, we are able to hold a longer event and we could organise these more frequently. This is the limitation that we are facing and we could not organise many events like this and also meetings with future partners. We faced problem when we were having a meeting with the local Swedish embassy and a webinar with a local university institute. We also wanted to have a website and a dedicated email for our outreach. We realised this when the Swedish embassy had to send the invitation emails since their email address is more trusted than our normal gmail address currently.

Currently, we paid the Zoom premium account with our own money.
