Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

The Wikimedia Ghana User Group is assisting a lawyer and part-time lecturer at Gimpa Law School to incorporate the English Wikipedia in his curriculum for his law students. Editing will be used as a course assignment which the students would be graded accordingly. This is part of the Wikipedia Education Program we are running with the Gimpa Law School. Wikimedia Ghana User Group / Wikipedia Education Program Also our dashboard for this Education program can be found here: [Education dashboard] The has been an earlier presentation by the program leader at the school on what Wikipedia is about. Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

We will hold our second workshop but this time a hands-on for the students on how to edit Wikipedia. The students would be put in groups and articles on Intellectual property law would be created. Also the lecturer will grade the students through the assignments which would be given to them.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

We would inform the community through the following means:

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

At the end of the project we would have been able to have created articles on Intellectual property law in Ghana. We would take the emails of the students who participated and those who want to be active members would be added to our mailing list. We would track the progress of the articles to be created through the dashboard we have created for the program.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  1. Number of total participants: 60
  2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable): The students would be put in groups and articles created.
  3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable): Photos of how the WEP is done here in Ghana would be uploaded
  4. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable)

Resources[edit]

Endorsements[edit]

  • I'm excited to see this pilot program in Ghana. I'm particularly pleased to see the initial documentation on wiki and it looks like there is a plan to use the Programs and Events Dashboard to track activity. Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 14:41, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Having been a student lawyer in Ghana myself, I know how frustrating it is to know that information which should be easily and readily available is not. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of that. SitsofeOfori (talk) 15:05, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
