Grants talk:Conference/Creative Commons Finland/Hack4OpenGLAM

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Dear Susannaanas,

Thank you for submitting this thorough proposal! I really appreciate the clarity and research you have done. It definitely shows by the way you identified and prioritized the focus areas for the event.

I reviewed your proposal, and have some comments to share.

  • I really like the highlight on cultural questions and ethical sharing. I'm a strong believer in working with other open knowledge communities to generate the impact we wish to see.
  • Events dates - as I now understand, you are planning on having an opening day with a workshop, followed by 3 days of independent/group working days, and then a closing day. The purpose is to allow people to attend the working days at their own convenience. I think that is a good approach, but I wouldn't recommend adding more days to the event. Other than the efforts and capacities it will require to facilitate and coordinate, from our experience 5 days is far more than a standard for a remote event. A standard percipient to an online event cannot usually be productive and engaged for so long.
  • Community input - You've done a really great job in identifying the focus areas and prioritizing them. That is extremely helpful. Thank you for that. But I am concerned about the 10 responses to the survey. It's really not that much. But I know you already have experience from last year, and you mentioned there is a big community interest in having this event. But even though, I suggest you will keep the survey open to gather more data.
  • Scholarships budget - Unfortunately we cannot fund grants for participating in event activities (such as the workshop days). For a remote conference, scholarships are restricted to accessibility issues such as internet connection and child care when needed.

Following our conversation yesterday, this proposal was now moved to committee's review. Thank you again for this thought-out proposal and for allowing this important and much needed platform for engagement. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for the comments, CAlmog (WMF)! I will address them here briefly.
  • Focus on ethical sharing: Thank you for the support! We also find it the pressing overarching issue to be addressed.
  • Dates: Yes, we are in accordance about this. Any other possible related events would be treated as separate.
  • Community input: We will use a reduced survey as part of the registration process to be able to continually gather this data.
  • Scholarships: OK. We were responding to a suggestion given on the Grants proposal by proposing this scholarship opportunity. Could this support be maintained in some form?

Grant approved[edit]

Dear Susannaanas,

Thank you for your work on the grant request and responding to our comments. I’m happy to tell you that we've reviewed the final proposal and are happy to support it! You received an email earlier today with more instructions and next steps. In regards to the scholarships budget - we would need to talk about it a bit more to better identify the needs and goals. As I mentioned earlier, we cannot fund grants for participating in event activities, but we can approve budget for keynote speakers if that's what you mean. Let's review it again in our next meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will circle back soon to schedule our first meeting. Looking forward to working together CAlmog (WMF) (talk) 14:48, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to approve an extra expenditure[edit]

We would like to order hoodies / T-shirts with Hack4OpenGLAM prints for the whole Hack4OpenGLAM team, consisting of 7 AvoinGLAM / Open Knowledge / CC Finland organizers, 7 regional ambassadors and 3 facilitators and the designer (18 people). We are well within the budget to be able to complete this. Susanna Ånäs (Susannaanas) 🦜 08:27, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
