Hi @Mjohnson (WMF):

Just letting you know that the midpoint report has been completed and is ready to be reviewed. :) Looking forward to your feedback!

Many thanks.

Report accepted[edit]

Misaochan,

Thank you for submitting this Midpoint Report. I am accepting it now with the following comments:

  • I enjoyed reading the summary of how the app is performing. 11,766 points to a lot of articles improved! As you say later in your report, this seems like a great indicator of quality.
  • Congratulations on all the new features and bug fixes you've completed so far. It's clear you've taken so much care -- from the aesthetics of a clean, intuitive layout to the nuts and bolts of getting the legal language correctly arranged.
  • It's great that you have identified successful methods of collaboration to work together and communicate as a distributed team with differing timezones. You mention a lot of good ideas here--useful tools for how to organize workflows, emphasis on planning before implementation, incorporation of volunteer feedback. These and your tips on timezone management, useful to many in the Wikimedia context, might make for a worthwhile learning pattern.
  • Also, on the theme of worthwhile learning patterns, your thinking about how to make use of volunteer contributions, and account for bugs that might crop in their work, is also really useful.
  • It's great that you can track deletion with the Commons app stats tool. Curious to know if you have a way of tracking the reasons for the deletions? If so, are there themes you notice?
  • What are the plan for publicizing the app? Can you think of ways I might support you here? Happy to talk.

Thank you so much for your high quality work on this project, Misaochan! Our grants administrator will be in touch with you about your next disbursement.

Warm regards,

Hi Marti (WMF), thank you for the feedback and the encouraging comments - we greatly appreciate it. :) I love the suggestions for learning patterns and will incorporate one or both of them in the final report later on.
Re: the deletions tracked via the Commons app stats tool, as far as I know the existing code (which was written by Yusuke) does not include tracking reasons for deletions. This could be a useful suggestion for future enhancement of the tool, though!
At the moment, we are mostly focusing our publicity efforts on existing Wikimedians who are already familiar with the movement and with Commons. Vojtěch has been a huge help here by helping us with our social media presence, as well as posting on various tech news websites. I personally post on several mailing lists and a personal blog linked to Planet Wikimedia, and occasionally work with the Wikimedia blog to publish updates. I think it would be wonderful for publicity if we could have the app linked via other Wikimedia pages, but that feels like quite a big ask. I will talk to the others on GitHub to see if they have any other ideas, and will get back to you on that?
Cheers! Misaochan (talk) 15:17, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
