Follow-up Questions and Observations on your grant application[edit]

Hello @MdsShakil

Thank you for putting in your grant application. Here are the consolidated questions, comments and observations from the reviewers. Would you be able to provide a response to them? Thank you.

--

Feedback on activities proposed

1) How will the contest will contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of the Bangla Wikibooks and Wiktionary projects. Are there strategies for retaining new contributors?

2) Are there plans to track the quality of contributions and provide feedback to participants?

3) At question 17, you mentioned "organizing similar contests twice in Bangla Wikibooks.[1][2]" Could you provide the links marked [1] and [2]? The links are broken in the application.

Feedback on community notification

3) Given that both Wikibooks and Wiktionary are not active projects, there should be additional efforts to engage the larger Bangla community to provide feedback on this grant by the grantee. How do you plan to do that?

Feedback on budget 4) Could you share more details of sponsorship fee in your proposed budget?

Thank you.

Hello @JChen (WMF),
Thank you for the questions. The answers are as follows:
1. The competition aims to generate new content while simultaneously promoting and raising awareness of Wikibooks and Wiktionary. We believe that increasing awareness of these projects will lead to greater usage and engagement, thereby attracting new volunteers. At the end of the competition, the top volunteers will be awarded prizes, and online certificates and Wiki Barnstars will be given to all participants who have had at least one article accepted. We are confident that these initiatives will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the project.
2. Yes, our jury team will evaluate the quality of every submitted page and provide necessary feedback to participants via talk page messages and the Fountain tool.
3. I provided the link at the end of the question. Here it is again:

[2]: b:bn:উইকিবই:উইকিবই লিখন প্রতিযোগিতা ২০২২
4. I understand that this grant has not received enough feedback since these two projects are not very active. However, I can assure you that I have consulted several people in the community about this and today requested them to provide public feedback. Additionally, I have posted a message on the Bengali Wikipedia forum to draw the attention of the Bangla Wikipedia community and encourage their participation.
5. Kiwix will help us as a facial sponsor for this grant. I contacted them prior to applying, and this information has been included in the budget sheet.
Please let me know if you have any further questions. —MdsShakil (talk) 13:42, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Addressing a Necessity[edit]

Although I am not currently very active on the Bangla Wiktionary and am only somewhat active on Wikibooks, I strongly believe that this writing contest will significantly benefit both projects. Not only will it promote awareness about these platforms, but it will also attract new users, which is something both projects desperately need. This contest will help enrich the content on these sites, encourage editors to create high-quality books and articles, and make these resources more widely available to people with quality content.

This initiative also marks the first major contest for Wiktionary and sets a precedent for future improvements. I fully support this proposal and am hopeful that it will come to fruition. Asked42 (talk) 19:58, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
