I wholeheartedly endorse this proposal. This initiative is of significant importance given the historical stature of Danfodio University Sokoto. By engaging with this academic hub, the project has the potential to preserve cultural heritage, amplify northern Nigerian perspectives, and encourage ongoing contributions to Wikimedia projects. The community's enthusiasm for this project is evident, and I am confident it will contribute to Wikimedia's mission of providing free access to diverse knowledge.

Danfodio University Sokoto stands as a testament to the rich history and academic tradition of northern Nigeria, dating back to the caliphate of Usman Danfodio. The proposal's focus on this esteemed institution presents a unique opportunity to bridge historical knowledge with the digital era, ensuring that the University's legacy is preserved and shared on Wikimedia projects.

I support this project because it will help the entire student of Usman danfodiyo University and the sokoto people at large, the project is so much important to the student because many of the student they have interest in social media activities, so if they know how to edit and create article in Wikipedia , they will volunteer and work hard . And its an achievement to the Wikipedia, Wikimedia organization, because through this project we are getting more editors in the organization and through that we can achieve our goal. Wikipedia activities is for youths and this university have alots of students male and females that are ready to give their time ,data and work hard as a volunteer . We have alots of comrades that are ready. Must of them, they don't know the work of Wikipedia and Wikimedia in their society and most important to the student during learning research. Through this project, they will be trained, practice in all kinds of Wikipedia and Wikimedia activities.

The WikiAwareness Campaign And Training at Danfodio University Sokoto is super important to make Wikipedia more known and used at UDUS. What makes this plan strong is how carefully it's planned, especially with both online and offline training. They're putting extra focus on including groups that aren't usually represented, like women. The team doing this are experienced volunteers, which makes us trust that they can pull off the project well. The cool thing about this effort is that it's not just about learning Wikipedia but also creating a culture where people share knowledge at the university for a long time.

I firstly discovered Wikipedia through social media, and my initial engagement was during Yusuf Sa'adu's Disclosure Organizer Project in Gusau when I travel from Sokoto to Gusau. This Wikimedia Awareness and Training initiative at the Federal University Gusau marked the beginning of my journey with Wikipedia. Since then, I have delved into researching and actively contributing as an editor on Wikipedia. This project holds significant importance as many, particularly students, are familiar with Wikipedia but lack awareness that it is curated by individuals like us, not generated by machines. There's a common misconception that Wikipedia is akin to a blogging platform, leading to the need for projects like this to clarify its collaborative nature. I wholeheartedly endorse this project and look forward to contributing to its success. I am confident that with proper execution, this project will address misconceptions and enhance awareness about Wikipedia within our community. I am eager to see it unfold smoothly and make a meaningful impact.

I, Gwanki, the online tutor, proudly endorse the WikiAwareness Campaign and Training in Danfodio University Sokoto proposal. As a sysop editor at Hausa Wikipedia with a decade of experience, I am enthusiastic about contributing to the success of this initiative. My commitment to providing online training and guidance aligns with the project's goal of raising awareness and participation among Usman Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS) students, staff, and faculty.

I believe that the combination of online and offline training, along with on-the-ground engagement, will have a meaningful impact on fostering a vibrant Wikimedia community at UDUS. The focus on gender inclusivity and empowering women editors resonates with my values, and I look forward to playing a role in achieving these objectives.

This proposal is an essential step towards addressing the challenges of low awareness, lack of local content, and underrepresentation on Wikipedia, specifically in the context of UDUS, Sokoto, and Nigeria. I am excited to be part of a team dedicated to bridging knowledge gaps, promoting diversity, and contributing to the growth of Hausa Wikipedia.

Feedback and Endorsement From M Bash Ne[edit]

This proposal holds significant importance for the Wikimedia community as it addresses the low awareness and participation in Wikipedia and its sister projects among the Usman Danfodio University Sokoto (UDUS) community. The chosen strategies, including on-site awareness campaigns and a comprehensive training program, demonstrate a well-thought-out approach. The team's commitment and diverse skills, coupled with the focus on gender inclusivity, make this proposal a commendable effort to bridge knowledge gaps and foster long-term collaboration within the university.@M Bash Ne (talk) 07:25, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not Funded[edit]

Hello @Yusuf Sa'adu Thank you for applying for a Rapid Fund Grant. We have reviewed your application and have decided to not fund it with the following feedback and comments;

  • The application and the budget do not align as the proposal does not specify what kind of awareness will be happening specifically while the budget suggests an in-person gathering.
  • We recommend that given the overlap with existing projects in northern Nigeria focusing on 'awareness,' and considering the need for clearer project definition and experience, it might be more beneficial to start with a Wikimedia Nigeria microgrant. This would give you the space to pilot your project on a smaller scale, evaluate its impact, and refine your strategy.

Overall, we recommend that you engage with the Hausa Wikimedians User Group which is actively promoting awareness and improving editor retention in the northern region.
