Closing Editing and Contents Gender Gaps[edit]

In my last project that I did in my institution [1] Wikimedia Promotions in Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Ojewuyib was one of the facilitators and she was given the task to mobilize women for the training and awareness. To our biggest suprise, 70% of the participants turned out to be women, view me . With the above, I believe that this training is a well timed project and she has the capacity to create awareness and trainings geared towards mostly empowering women editors in her community. Also, having gone through the project, I discovered that the edit-a-thon will mostly focused on improving and editing notable women on Wikimedia Foundation projects. Therefore, I believe that the two approaches i.e. recruiting more women and improving notable women articles will go a long way to fill the gender gap that exists on Wikimedia Foundation projects. Hence, I give this project a Strong support Strong support and I will be there to offer my physical and mental support for the success of the program. Ibjaja055 (talk) 10:57, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Endorsement[edit]

Having worked with the project lead in different wikimedia foundation projects, I can testify to her capacity to flawlessly deliver the project. Also, the project aimed to address one of the toughest challenges faced by women in the Northern Nigeria which is marginalisation. I believe that combining awareness and trainings tailored towards the visibility of an underrepresented group (women in Northern Nigeria) is a good approach to contribute to the movement of Wikimedia Foundation project. Therefore, I am giving this project a Strong support Strong support Abdulazeez Taufeeq (talk) 12:47, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Gender Promotions[edit]

This project will empower more women in Northern Nigerian for Wikimedia editors and Wikipedia contents which is important for promoting diversity and inclusivity in knowledge sharing as it will also establish a supportive community of women interested in Wikipedia editing. Bridging Content gap about Women[edit]

There's need to make more contributions to articles about women on Wikipedia hence this project will help achieve that as it is tailored towards covering more content on the online encyclopedia. This will also help recruits more women Editor as it is centred around gender awareness of which women is underrepresented. Tesleemah (talk) 10:57, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Endorsement[edit]

@Ojewuyib's project aimed at addressing the pervasive gender gap among Wikipedia editors in Africa, specifically in the North East, Nigeria . It's undeniable that this gap significantly exists, with women being considerably less inclined to become editors on the various Wikimedia platforms. This imbalance is not only reflected in the quantity but also in the nature of interactions that female editors have with their male counterparts, the support they receive, and the barriers they encounter in securing leadership roles.

Beyond participation, this gender gap extends to content representation, with women being underrepresented in Wikipedia articles. Thus, addressing this issue is not just about fairness, but it also affects the richness and diversity of the information available on Wikipedia.

@Ojewuyib's proposed solution to this challenge, comprising of two key strategies - actively recruiting more women as editors and enhancing the representation and quality of articles about notable women - is a robust approach. I firmly believe that the execution of these strategies will go a long way in bridging the current gender gap that exists within Wikimedia Foundation projects.

In light of these factors, I want to lend my strong support to this project. I believe its successful implementation would be a substantial step towards establishing an equitable and balanced representation of both genders within the Wikimedia community and its content. Endorsement[edit]

I support this project because it is a crucial effort to close the gender gap. This initiative encourages inclusivity and diversity within the Wikimedia community by offering information and tools to empower women and marginalised cultures. It creates a climate where everyone feels welcome and inspired to offer their knowledge and viewpoints through targeted training programmes and raised awareness. By tackling the gender gap, this project improves the depth and accuracy of the information on Wikimedia platforms, making it more representative of our diverse global society.

In addition, I have been informed that I am a facilitator and will be present to guarantee the project's success. YusufuAM (talk) 07:36, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not Funded (sharing on the correct discussion page)[edit]

Hello Ojewuyib, thank you for applying for the rapid fund grant. We reviewed and decided not to fund this application at this time.

  • More clarity is needed regarding the project focus and impact. A comprehensive plan is outlined to systematically identify and engage academic organizations in Wikimedia initiatives, however it is equally important to clarify the specific impact you aim to achieve through this project. Defining the measurable impact and outlining potential long-term benefits will strengthen the narrative of your project plan.
  • Additionally, given that the project aims to identify and engage champions within academic organizations, consider building collaborations and engaging with other experienced wikimedia editors and user groups, who could provide valuable insights, support, and even a sense of community to the champions you identify. Additionally, you might consider aligning your efforts with existing WikiProjects or initiatives related to education. Generally, for the project plan outlined in this proposal, building strong collaborations will be important.

Addressing these feedback points will help you refine and strengthen your proposal, making it more aligned with the goals and values of the Wikimedia movement.
