Report accepted and comments[edit]

Hello Uncle Bash007, thanks for submitting this grant report. I have reviewed it and I have some comments, questions, and recommendations:

  • Thank you for your contribution to the Hausa Wikipedia. The work you have done to improve Wikipedia articles is really appreciated.
  • One of the purpose of your projects was to run "A series of outreaches to Libraries, archives and meseums and 2 editathons". How did you achieve this goal? I couldn't find any details about this outreach work in the report aside from "3 libraries were also visited within 2 weeks". How did you organize the outreach work? How many librarians were interested or engaged in editing? Who are they? How many have been engaged in the user group activities?
  • Under the learnings section you mentioned "almost every aspect of the event went well". Aside from the number of edited articles, what other initial objectives or targets did you achieve?
  • You had 7 participants but you still spent the whole budget. You mention that it's because of inflation but you didn't provide additional information.

I'm accepting this report with the following recommendations:

  • Please talk to other Hausa community members and about their reporting practices and for your future completed projects, provide a more detailed final report.
    • Set clear initial goals in the grant proposal and describe your progress in the report in detail.
    • Describe how you followed up with participants and how many of them continued editing.
    • Take some photos from the events and include them in the report.
    • For your future activities, do not offer prizes when the number of participants is small.
  • Please keep a detailed log of all expenses that you have made and retain the receipts. I understand that sometimes receipts are not available but keeping a detailed log of expenses is required.
  • Finally, please think about the impact you would like to see for your community in the future. Instead of organizing individual activities, please think how you can collaborate with other community members to apply for joint projects and to achieve better impact.

Thank you so much. Wishing you all the best for your future activities. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:23, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

Hi Davit, thank you for the comments and recommendations. The recommendations will be taking into due consideration and i will share them with community. As for your questions I want to emphasize on two major factors which are, firstly there was a general network blockage in most parts of the country that's why there was low number participants and after then i notice that the major improvements most articles needed were the structure and quality of the translated articles and thus we focused mostly improving and we will continuitue reviewing such articles. As for outreaches we visited Libraries for 2 weeks as stated and visit Katsina State meseum, and couldnt reach any archive (as they are outside the state and couldnt afford long trip with our budget). As for the number of new editors i notice from my previous project experiencethat is not about organizing a large gathering, its all about who's willing to contribute, thats why i focus on people that i know are willing to contribute to the free encyclopedia and yet with issues of mistrust especially internet related activities, not everyone that is accepting such activities easily. But we have two recruit from Federal University staffs which are GUDms911 and his colleague IImogadishu and they are all added to our existing user group on whatsapp. I will also make sure to keep a steady record of every detail related to any project in the future. Thank you very much I wish my explanation will suffice. Best regards Uncle Bash007 (talk) 00:13, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response, Uncle Bash007.
  • I understand the reason of low participation and I'm sorry about it. What are the possible ways of mitigating this risk? Maybe you need to have a plan B for similar cases?
  • Improving articles is always a good idea. I really appreciate this decision.
  • Thanks for providing more information about the outreach part into libraries. In the future, please include these details into the report, so that it's clear for reviewers.
Thanks again for your work! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:13, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
