Question

Both UN Human Rights and the WMF team are really grateful. Initial data suggests that this year we doubled the volume of content created and grew the campaign in languages and geographies. This kind of activation only works when we have local-organizers doing targeted outreach to their communities.

We are still learning how to organize this campaign, would like your feedback. Please fill out this survey at: this google form.

We will use the summary of findings and recommendations from the survey for the report on the campaign and for designing next year’s campaign. Movement Charter Drafting Committee Candidacy - additional information

Dear Uncle Bash007,

I am reaching out to you in relation to the Movement Charter Drafting Committee candidacy. The main reason for writing this letter is related to ensuring that your profile will be well presented during the upcoming election and selection process.

Request in short:

• Please send us information to strategy2030wikimedia.org regarding your “main wiki project” and expertise by naming the project and choosing 3 areas of competency from the respective matrix. We kindly ask you to send this information by October 3, 2021.
• Add your proposals for “election compass” statements and be prepared to answer a survey with the upvoted statements.

Main wiki

To ensure diversity of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee, there is a limitation in the election process that a maximum of 2 people from the same wiki project can be elected. As a result, we would kindly ask you to define your one main wiki project by writing to strategy2030wikimedia.org

Expertise

In some discussions with the community members it has been highlighted that while it is easier to assess the diversity of the candidates, it is more difficult to understand the expertise and competencies they have. As a result, we would kindly ask you to reflect on this and choose up to 3 top competencies that you would bring to the committee from the 14 mentioned in the expertise matrix.

We kindly ask you to send your response to strategy2030@wikimedia.org and we will add it for you. The reason for this is that we are locking the page for translations and trying to avoid any editing conflicts. I hope it makes sense.

Voting compass

As you might have read on other channels, we are also setting up an election compass for people to navigate 73 candidacies for the committee. It works like this: You will see statements that we have asked the candidates to position themselves to (support, neutral, oppose; and some lines of reasoning). The tool asks you to position yourself to these statements. At the end, you will see who of the candidates is closest to you.

This will help to highlight your positioning regarding the key matters to be tackled in the Movement Charter and support people in making an informed decision in the election and selection process. You can consult and add your own thoughts on the statement collection page. If you want to understand what the tool will look like, see the prototype on Toolforge.

There is no action needed from you know, but we will come back to you with a survey in about 10 days time and would kindly ask you to fill it to be well presented in this compass. We truly believe that it is a good way to support people in making sense of all the nominations and hope you see it as an interesting and beneficial approach.

Queering Wikipedia 2022 Announcement

Wikimedia LGBT+ and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is holding a Queering Wikipedia 2022 Meeting for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies. The program will start with an informative, social and cultural activity on Friday 21st October at 18h UTC and working sessions on Saturday 22nd from 14h until 18h with an informal follow-up.

If you have been an active Wikimedian, contributing on LGBT+ topics, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please come help us build our network of LGBT+ Wikimedians, set goals and develop our organization.

We will be meeting online, but encourage you to join in person with fellow Wikimedians if easy and safe. Our working languages are English and Spanish.

Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2023: Invitation

Dear Wikipedian!

After two successful campaigns, Wikimedia Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Ukrainian Institute, decided to launch "Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month" in the year 2023, which will last from 1st until 31st March. The campaign is dedicated to famous Ukrainian artists of cinema, music, literature, architecture, design, and cultural phenomena of Ukraine that are now part of world heritage.

I would like to invite you to participate once again in this writing challenge! We have revised the suggested articles and announced new prizes for contestants to motivate fruitful contributions from participants. I hope to see you on board soon!

Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2023 Scorings

Hi, regarding the scorings of the Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month, I think you have redundant scorings in terms of article size and added bytes. If you have a translation you can only add points for articles size, added bytes are counted only if you contribute to an existing article (add text to an existing article). So in this regards I think most of the scores are miscalculated. It's not a big deal and it's only a contest but I think I should ask for corrections (please also consider examples and scorings of other users). Alperen (talk) 18:15, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Alperen, thank you for the heads-up. I think the scoring system is somehow vague and I may misunderstood some of the concepts. Nevertheless, the reason why I add bytes added was because after I create new article via translator, I normally follow-up and make random corrections like adding databoxes, references, templates etc. that’s why I added those bytes added. Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.
