Is this correct? When I do an edit with the hashtag on enwiki, I get "Participation in Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos is restricted to extended-confirmed users only on the English Wikipedia". Guide on how to use WPWP Campaign Hashtags

In the Campaign rules section on the Home page:

• There's a link (sixth point, lower right) to the Guide on how to use WPWP Campaign Hashtags. That page's title is dated for the previous campaign year (2022). Need it be updated or duplicated for the current year (2023)?
• I added a text line about the Guide explaining the use of "Community-specific hashtags" which is important information for participants. How to bring that new content into source text for the translated versions? (At present, only the Russian and Korean language versions have a complete translation, each with one user.)

• I updated the page header. The information is largely static, so no need for duplication.
• I think it will not show up until a translation admin marks the page again so as to pick up the changes. I cannot do that myself, but I will ping @Ата if they can kindly remark the pages.

What? Looks like many will be thrown off this project

Do you have psychics or a camera in everyones house. Do you want me to join or do I face an interrogation to see if I have read every sentence and every hyperlinked article? This is NOT welcoming. Will you be livestreaming the test where the winners are declared and 90% of them are disqualified when they are asked "Is there a wikiproject that may disqualify anyone that has not read every word of every page of the instructions"? I actually want to register and all I can find is cautionary messages.... That is an improvement, but I wish there was a "click to register here" button. Its nice to know that there are clear and patient instructions (with all the consequences explained in detail of not reading them) but do you expect everyone to read them? Some of us just wing it - should we go elsewhere? Telling us to read the smallprint doesnt work, we just want to get editting and if we miss new rule number 14C and then so be it. Yes, that's why we removed the wording around "read this in entirety". The intent was solely to make participants (especially less-experienced ones) be aware that participation implies understanding and agreeing to following the campaign rules; that may (arguably) require reading the rules completely. We expect experienced editors to already know most of the instructions stated there but there's no harm in reading what one already knows.

Do we expect everyone to read them all? No. But we expect every participant to understand them.

On the second issue: "click to register here" button. Please note that as this campaign is distributed, participants do not register centrally to participate. All registrations are through local organizers who may have their own landing page on wiki or elsewhere (e.g 1, 2) and their own registration system. So it's not a straightforward task to create single 'register here' button. However, we do have individual participants (not affiliated to group/community) category and these participants can register directly here on Meta. – Ammarpad (talk) 18:56, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

Are we limiting the bots from participating?

It's always been users using bots that win in past contests, to spam hundreds of photos with one click. If so, there is no point in participating, I'm wasting my time if I have no hope of winning. Oaktree b (talk) 17:40, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

The contest jury team has the latitude to disqualify participants they believe gain unfair advantage or do not comply with the campaign rules. Moreover, it's important to note that final (global) winners are not solely selected based on volume of edit but several other parameters are considered. For instance use of caption (image caption), use of meaningful edit summary as well as percentage of participant's edits considered of low quality (e.g less relevant photo, over-use of image in article) among others are all taken into account.

Additionally, if your're not an Independent participant (that's you're participating through one of the Communities listed here, they may have additional rules and criteria for selecting their winners for the local prizes. Nonsense editing again

Once again, WPWP is causing disruption, because users are just spamming whatever images they want into articles, just to get the edit count for this contest up. e.g. [1] which is adding a wikiproject file to an article, just so that they can add one to their spam image count. Cannot believe that the WMF allows editing like this year after year, it's not a net positive to Wikipedia. Cannot believe that the WMF continues to pay for people to disrupt Wikipedias every year. @Joseph2302:, you are attacking the #WPWP organisers for bad contributions from an editor who has been contributing to the English Wikipedia for more than 3 years and has created more than 30 articles on that same language Wikipedia? That's strange! If we cannot trust an editor to constructively edit articles after three years, they should be blocked. The inability of an account to competently contribute after three years is not a problem created by the WPWP campaign. I remember leaving a warning for another editor, User:Gbawden, an editor with more than a decade of editing experience. Users such as these should be warned, and if they persist,they should be indefinitely blocked. I wanted to give my appreciation as I am particularly pleased with the ease of registration! I had difficulty logging my contributions for previous Wikimedia project #WikiForHumanRights 2022 because I had to tally points and keep track myself and this became tiresome. @Muralikrishna m. This is a known issue and is being worked on in phab:T343104. Note there's been some progress already, currently the tool shows edits upto 16th August. Everything will eventually, but slowly, return to normal.

Thanks a lot for stats fixing! Looks much better now. And you can see examples of users duplication at page 9 of users statistics. My name Екатерина Борисова duplicates 2 times (with some unknownn symbol in the middle in one case) and name of user Тиверополник duplicates 7 times (every time with some unknown symbol in new place of his name). It seems strange because some other cyrillic usernames - Ванилица, Книжная пыль, Красный - are OK. -- Екатерина Борисова (talk) 22:53, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello all, As I saw, they wrote about the problem a long time ago, but let me remind you that it is the end of the month and the problem has not been solved yet. Wiki hashtag tool doesn't work correctly, we have informed the fabricator. After check "Over time check" graph in tool, we find many days when, when editors added photos and insert the hashtag, but the tool didn't count it.--Beko (talk) 06:42, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

It takes time to solve non-trivial problem, and there are only 1 or 2 persons who can actually fix the underlying technical issue. If you check the linked phab tasks there are some updates on the progress being made. That said, as of writing this, the tool is now almost fully up to date (for this campaign in particular) because it has already reached up to September 1.
