Report accepted[edit]

Hello Global Open Initiative, thank you for submitting this final report. I am glad to learn that despite some challenges due to COVID-19, you have successfully run all the planned events meeting the set targets. I appreciate your work throughout this grant and your quick response to the new factors over COVID-19, which made you transform your events to an online format. I have reviewed your report and accepted it with the following questions and comments:

  • What was the main challenge of moving events into an online environment? What resources did you use to make these online meetups possible?
  • Are you planning to hold similar online events in the future?
  • I commend you for partnering with new institutions! How are you going to continue these partnerships?
  • I noticed in the report page that you uploaded screenshots of non-free software to Wikimedia Commons. I have to ask you to remove them all, since per the Wikimedia Commons guideline these screenshots must not be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons unless all content in them is under a free license or in the public domain.

Thanks again for joining the Art+Feminism campaign and organizing these events! Final report and expense documents for this grant are accepted, the grant is now complete. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for reviewing and accepting our grant report. Please find answers to the above questions:
  • The main problem is internet connectivity. Not only is it expensive but the connectivity is poor in certain areas of the country. Some of our online participants did not have stable internet connectivity and some complained about the cost of internet data, hence the reason they are unable to join us online for long hours.
  • For software we used google hangout the first time and then zoom for the second event. We relied on free zoom account which did not allow us to host events beyond 40 minutes. And for hardware, we used our individual laptops, earphones and routers. Not all could afford routers, so those who did not have, had to hotspot from their phone’s mobile data.
  • Yes we are planning to hold similar online events in the future. We will continue to take advantage of the current situation to engage and organize online workshops by experimenting and finding more means to solve some of the challenges.
  • We will provide our platforms on social media to them to promote their events and encourage our community to attend their virtual events as well. We will also invite them to attend our events and possibly collaborate with them on future projects as well.
  • Well noted, thank you for notifying us of this. We recorded our sessions on zoom. We have uploaded these videos to commons as well. Does that mean we should delete them too? Shahadusadik (talk) 15:19, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Shahadusadik, thanks for responding to my questions! Through Rapid Grants you can request funds for subscription services for video conferencing, webinars, or other online communication platforms during the grant period, as well as funds for data plans; so please consider including these expenses in your budget for your future online events. Unfortunetly, you need to request deletion of the video files too, since Zoom is not a free licensed software. You can use for instanse Youtube to host these video files. Thank you, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:49, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DSaroyan (WMF), Thanks a lot for the support. We will consider that in our next project. Cheers! Shahadusadik (talk) 17:53, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
