Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hello Igboanude, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal. It’s interesting to learn about your plans to improve the Igbo Wiktionary. I have reviewed the application and have the following questions:

  • What tools do you plan to use to record word pronunciations?
  • Do you have any list of Wiktionary entries that you will be working on? Could you please provide that page link?
  • Additionally, how do you plan to track participants’ contributions on Incubator?
  • Why do you propose to hire space in a business center for participants? Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper if you just hired laptops for them?

Looking forward to your response. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:16, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear DSaroyan (WMF) thanks for your review and questions. The tools that we had always used to add voice notes in the Wiktionary is audacity. It works very well and that is what we intended to use. However I have seen the tools you recommended. Maybe we will try any of the two you recommended hoping that it will be better. I did not create a list of words in Igbo Wiktionary which we will add the pictures and voice notes. However, if you take a look at words in that Wiktionary, you will notice that majority of the words there do not have pictures and voice notes. There is therefore so much work to do there. On tracking the work we do, we have noticed that the outreach dashboard do not track edits done in Igbo wiktionary. Maybe because it is still in the incubator. We will copy each word we work on and put those words in the report. On the hire of business center, maybe I used the wrong word. I mean that we will hire a meeting room, a space where the edit a thon will take place. Thank you. --Igboanude (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Igboanude, thanks for your response.
  • Spell4wiki app is an automated mobile tool to record and upload files to Wikimedia Commons. Dagbani Wikimedians User Group has used it for their Activating Local Language Communities project. So, I think it might be helpful for you too. Anyways, feel free to use the tool which is more convenient to you.
  • It is now clear to me why you plan to rent a space. It means though that you will be having in-person activities. Could you please update your response to question #7?
Thank you, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:39, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear DSaroyan (WMF) Thanks for letting me know about the spell4wiki tool. we will certainly try it in this project. I have also made the correction in question 7. Regards. --Igboanude (talk) 09:59, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I ask that the time for completing the project be extended to 31 January 2022. Thank You --Igboanude (talk) 11:04, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
