Grants talk:TPS/Himeshi/GSoC Reunion 2014

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

More information about your request[edit]

Dear Himeshi: Thank you for your submission! From your request, it is a little unclear on what your level of active participation at the GSoC Reunion will be. Please provide some clarification and specifics on what promoting MediaWiki development would entail. Will you will have a talk or hold a workshop, etc.? More information can be found in the Travel and Participation Support page under Selection Criteria regarding the level of active participation. -- Thank you, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 17:05, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jtud (WMF), Thank you for reviewing my request! Google has not called for any workshops or talks (yet) for the Google Summer of Code Reunion as this is an unconference. However looking at their event schedule it seems that I would have ample opportunity to share my experience as a Wikimedia GSoC student and later GCI mentor, as I have done in the past at GSoC related events. --Thank you. Himeshi (talk) 00:59, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This Reunion is run mostly as an unconference, so Himeshi (or myself, or basically anybody) can't commit to run any specific sessions beforehand. I will be frank, I would accept this request on the basis that she got an invitation through the Google lottery (most applicants didn't), and also considering that she is willing to resolve the accommodation by her own means. We can meet there and discuss how are things, and how is she doing as a MediaWiki contributor.--Qgil (talk) 10:58, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Qgil! :) --Himeshi (talk) 12:12, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Qgil Thank you for taking the time to give your thoughts and endorsement! It was useful in helping the committee reach a decision. -- Best, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 18:46, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request approved[edit]

Dear Himeshi: Thank you for your reply to our request for clarification and your patience during the decision process. We are happy to fund your request! Although, we realize that the unconference format makes it difficult to hold a session/workshop, we ask that you consider thinking of 2-3 clear topics that you might propose to explore/discuss while at the Reunion. We look forward to learning more about the outcome of your participation on your report. We will contact you via email regarding funding your grant request and issuing your grant agreement. If you do not receive this email within two days and it had not been sent to your spam folder, please reach out to us at grantsadmin(_AT_)wikimedia.org. -- Cheers, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 18:46, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jtud (WMF), Thank you for accepting my grant proposal and I will do as you have suggested. However since the time I applied for the grant and now the flight prices have increased from the amount I requested ($1200) to around $1470 (cheapest fare for a return ticket to sjc or sfo). Would it therefore be possible to amend the amount I requested to reflect this amount? Thank you, Himeshi (talk) 16:08, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your request for an additional US$270 to cover the unexpected flight cost increase is approved. -- Best regards, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 17:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
