The Indic-TechCom request page is intended for placing a technical request for help and support from Indic communities.

  • Relevance: All requests should be related to technical aspects of Indic Wikimedia projects. In other words, a request should be directly related to any Indic-language Wikimedia projects.
  • Community discussion: In many cases, to process the request, community discussion and consensus is a must. So, please consult your community on the respective village pump/mailing list etc. Even in remaining cases where community consensus is not must, you are encouraged to first discuss the request within your community (on your respective Indic Wikimedia project) and discuss before placing a request here. You need to wait for at least 7 days after starting a village pump/mailing list discussion to get community response. Please share a link of such a discussion.
  • User rights: Some of these requests need "Interface admin rights" in a project to complete it. We will request you Interface admin rights for a limited period of time and you may need to write in the same discussion where a community was consulted to make it happen. Please follow this up whenever needed.
  • Assume good faith: Indic TechCom is managed by volunteers. Although we would try to respond as soon as possible. sometimes there might be delays. Based on the difficulty of a requested task, there might be delays as well. Please assume good faith.
  • Archive: For the archive overview, see Archive.

Mozilla Addon Cite4wiki[edit]

There are a good Addon Wikipedia:Cite4Wiki for citation tool on Mozilla Web browser. But it is not working for last 5 years. I don't know the any alternatives of this tool. Asaf Bartov tried to fix the issues at here. If the Indic Techcom Team could fix this issues , that will very helpful all community. Jayantanth (talk) 08:31, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Is my fix no longer working? Asaf (WMF) (talk) 14:44, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
@Asaf (WMF) and Ijon: Simple question : How to install? this link not working for download. Mozill page not working , Jayantanth (talk) 18:17, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
I have loaded it. But it is not working. I guess it is not working currently. because Nowadays extension is loaded by manifest.json which source does not have.--Jayprakash >>> Talk 18:29, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
@Jayantanth: Okay, I have taken a look, and it seems Firefox has progressed too much in the six years since I made the Jetpack version (itself just an emergency rewrite to keep SMcCandlish's Cite4Wiki working), so Cite4Wiki NG isn't working either. Before I look for time to adapt it to modern Firefox requirements, can you say a little more on the need for this tool at this point? Doesn't Visual Editor solve this problem well? Asaf (WMF) (talk) 18:37, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
@Jayprakash: Thanks for reply. @Asaf (WMF):, I am not a user of VE, so I don't know the how to use this at VE. But the GUI of this addon was the best for me to add the citeweb refernece from a website.Jayantanth (talk) 12:56, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Asaf (WMF) Ji, Will you work or I should create a small one extension?--Jayprakash >>> Talk 08:18, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
@Jayprakash: Yes, please go ahead, and feel free to re-use my code of course, if at all helpful. I am not finding time to work on this. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 18:50, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Select the area/column of image before start Indic OCR[edit]

Hi , @Jayprakash12345:, Could it be be possible to select the area of images to OCR a page? There are many books with double/triple column as well as images. So when we click on Indic OCR button to OCR, then there should be an option to full page ocr OR Select a zone of a images to OCR. Jayantanth (talk) 18:17, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Jayantanth for the above request. I have been thinking for sometime about this and visited today to make a request. This will be useful for digitizing old magazines, encyclopaedias, which have multple columns of text. The user interface should be such that the OCR text is appended to the existing text. (Example page on Telugu Wikipedia). We already have cropimage tool, which allows selecting the part of the image, which can be made useof. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 07:13, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
@@Arjunaraoc:, Thanks for your valuable comments. I think cropimage tool is not the solution. We have to think it in a different way, because GoogleOCR is not recongnised the column text at present. We have checked the Tecerract OCR which is column supported. But we havnt implemented in Indic Wikisource.Jayantanth (talk) 07:17, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

Citation template date validation localisation for tewiki[edit]

When using citation templates imported from English Wikipedia in Telugu, date validation works for only only date month and year and fails for for other formats with only month and year. Citation templates are using Lua Module (te:మాడ్యూల్:Citation/CS1/Date validation) which needs to be localised for Locale date formats. More than 1000 pages are affected by this (Link: te:వర్గం:CS1 errors: dates )--Arjunaraoc (talk) 07:10, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

For now, we have made the configuration changes of InternetArchiveBot so that it will use dates as on English wikipedia and thereby avoid errors on tewiki.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 06:57, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
Arjunaraoc Ji Frankly Speaking, I had experiences with Module when I was editing the Wikipedia a lot (Around 2 years back). But after diving in the MediaWiki. I had lost my experience with it. So I left such kind of requests to others.--Jayprakash >>> Talk 22:06, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks User:Jayprakash12345 for your update. --Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:09, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Is it possible to add Indic-OCR to VisualEditor?[edit]

Is it possible to explore adding Indic-OCR to VisualEditor on Page namespace on Wikisource? I found some documentation around adding a gadget to VE here: mw:VisualEditor/Gadgets/Add a tool. Thank you for looking into this.

Request to fix a problem on the main page of Punjabi Wikisource[edit]

Dear Indic-TechCom members,

Help us regarding an issue which we are facing on the main page of Punjabi Wikisource. The main page shows that there are 200 works on Punjabi Wikisource. It always shows "200" number. You can also see "Template:Main Page header". So, kindly help us to update "Template: ALL TEXTS". - Satpal (CIS-A2K) (talk) 09:01, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

About proofread counting on this competition[edit]

In the instruction page of this competition it was mentioned that, the competition would continue till 26 September 2020 23:59:59 UTC (India). According this time, I've proofread more than 205 pages on the last day of the competition but in the result page it was not counted. -- Rishikesh Roy (talk) 16:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Rishikesh Roy, the tool calculate time as UTC not IST. If that page saying the time calculated as Indian Standard time (IST), then organizers should set up time by adjusting IST and UTC. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 18:52, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
