Kilimanjaro Youth Community is a group of contributors to Wikimedia projects. we are located in Kilimanjaro 'and the desire of this group is to promote the presence of the Wikimedia Movement in Tanzania as well as to provide awareness of [Wikimedia] to Tanzanians, especially Kilimanjaro by editing and adding content to Wikimedia projects on SwahiliWiki (swwiki) and EnglishWiki (enwiki). Also a group aim to train people on how to be a part of Wikimedia through editing and adding content to Wikipedia and its sister projects. This group deals with Swahili and English weeks focusing on SwahiliWiki. The group is also responsible for organizing various events such as Editathons and Workshops that aim to expand and improve access to Wikimedia projects to Arusha and beyond as needed.
Objectives[edit]
- To promote the use of Wikimedia projects to people in Kilimanjaro.
- To help youth in Kilimanjaro learn how to contribute to Wikimedia projects
- To expand the SwahiliWiki in terms of its contents.
- To continue developing the presence of Wikimedia in Tanzania.
- To conduct Wikipedia weekly meetups and grow a community from Kilimanjaro.
History[edit]
In 2020 we joined a wikipedia training taking place in Arusha Tanzania, led by Ebenezer Mlay. After receiving the training and seeing it as useful to the community we decided to start this group to provide more opportunities for young people living in Kilimanjaro and grow the number of those who want to get involved in wikipedia.
Proposed Activities[edit]
- Organizing Wikipedia edit-a-thons in Tanzania.
- Promote editing of contents on Wikimedia projects that relates to Tanzania and neighboring countries.
- Training on how Youth can contribute to Wikimedia projects.
- Participating in other Wikimedia volunteerism Activities.
