This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.A committee member provided the following comment: Project is eligible. Please contribute to the test project at incubator:Wp/ppl, and contribute to the translation of the interface at translatewiki.net. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 14:32, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | ppl (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Pipil | Language name in English |
Language name | Nawat | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q1186896 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | ppl.wikipedia.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikipedia | "Wikipedia" in your language |
Project namespace | usually the same as the project name | |
Project talk namespace | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | yes | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | America/El_Salvador | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
[edit]Pipil or Nawat is a Nahuan (Aztecan) language spoken primarily in the Central American nation of El Salvador by the Pipil people. Pipil is a member of the Uto-Aztecan family, which is found in North and Central America.
Discussion
[edit]Arguments in favour
[edit]- The Pipil language has about 3,000 speakers [1] and it is a living language with an ethnic population of 196,576.
- 'Support':
Native speakersParticipants of Pipil have thecompetency andwillingness to contribute to this projectin the long-term. Hence the Pipil languagedeserves tocould be given the opportunity and priviledge to have its own language edition of Wikipedia along with the existing Uto-Aztecan languages such as Nahuatl if native speakers are willing to become involved in the near future.--Jose77 07:59, 19 August 2010 (UTC)--Jose77 08:43, 22 August 2010 (UTC)- This still has to be proved. Real activity on the Pipil Test Wikipedia has only started very recently after it turned out that only non-Pipil content had been contributed to it so far. We do not yet know whether the speakers have competency and willingness to contribute to this project in the long-term, although I really hope they do. But please don't claim this to be the case even before the test really started of. --MF-W 16:06, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, MF-W. We are only starting and time will tell, there is no need to jump the gun, but I personally believe we will be able to show the strength of this project given time and some favourable circumstances. Pipil has few speakers and most native speakers are elderly, illiterate and off-line. To bring them into the project it will be necessary for other project contributors to find ways to liaise with them and see how they can participate and contribute. I know the conditions and the human resources, and I don't think that is impossible, though it will be a challenge. Without a strong contingency of support form non-native speakers, it will not happen. This has to be an exercise in teamwork between both native and non-native Nawat language speakers and enthusiasts. Getting all that going will not happen overnight, so I hope for some patience and leeway. Time will tell if we succeed, but as someone (you?) remarked, it is worth while trying! - I agree with MF-Warburg's statement and have therefore modified my above statement. Since Alan probably currently lives in Basque Country, it may be more difficult to coordinate with the Nawat population when compared to someone living in El Salavador. There is no rush to have this request approved at this point in time. --Jose77 08:43, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

- 'Support' -- This project has sufficient readers and contributors. TerranBoy (talk) 13:36, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Support While there are some "Antifa"-like bad users several years ago as contributors, this project has cleared up and have clean contributors now, hopefully an approval may be considered in the following years. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:20, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
