I like the "evolve" pun, but the TAFI template was removed from the article, and it doesn't have other maintenance templates either; a clearer call to action would be desirable. Perhaps just readd the TAFI template? Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 23:26, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I'm not sure how the actual TAFI articles for each week are linking up with these social media statuses. If there are 10 articles in each batch and only a couple are picked each week that means there are some great articles that never get attention. I chose some TAFIs from previous weeks that I dont remember seeing having statuses written about them. I think ideally we should reduce the number in each batch from 10 back to 7, so at least we can address each article in a week is we want to.--Coin945 (talk) 04:23, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Tilman, I don't have a problem with moving forward without the template. I think it's fine in this case and would like to acknowledge Coin's work to get it up. I'd propose the text above with the small adjustment I made. Matthew (WMF) (talk) 16:07, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the people we send there should see a clear call to action in the article itself (yes, you can and should edit this article). That was the TAFI project's rationale for creating that template in the first place, as I understand it. On the SM channels we are targeting inexperienced contributors which need this kind of explicit encouragement even more than Wikipedians who follow the link from en:WP:TAFI (on that point, I think we should be in sync as well, but per Coin's remark that's secondary right now). Do you have any objections to the above suggestion to readd the template to the article before posting the SM messages? Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 17:21, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem adding the template. You think WP:TAFI will? Matthew (WMF) (talk) 17:37, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if they are fine with @wikipedia on Twitter etc stating that this is one of their articles for today, they should be fine with the template in the article, too. And recall that Theopolisme re-started the templating bot for us recently. It won't happen automatically in this case though, if the article is not on the schedule. Coin, would you mind adding the template yourself? (There is a policy for WMF employees that we should not edit the article namespace with our staff accounts.) And then let's go ahead with this one - I agree that although we should aim to aling with the project's schedule, we shouldn't let Coin's work go to waste in this case. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 17:46, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I added the template to Java Man. I agree with you guys. My criticism was with the current system itself. It means we have to cherrypick maybe one or two out of a 10 article batch. But from now on I'll make sure articles match up to when they're in the TAFI schedule. You can always move up another of my suggestions from "this week" to today if you want. By the way, I do think we should establish a #TAFI twitter hashtag (as I mentioned in the TAFI talkpage). Even if it was just added at the very end of both Twitter and Facebook statuses (hashtags on Facebook work now). Great for creating a brand/finding out who's talking about it etc.--60.230.229.112 22:44, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks OK to me, although I would leave out "interwiki references and" - that's too technical and not centrally relevant. And as an alternative suggestion, we could also play up the machine-readability aspect of Wikidata a bit more: ".. to support Wikidata, the free knowledge base making structured data, such as statistical information, readily available to machines and humans alike". Just an idea.
For people with a limited memory like me, it would be preferable to mention Jeopardy! on T/I as well, but I can't find a way to fit it into 140c.

I'm a bit wary of endorsing/promoting (work on) specific articles, but we might get away with this one. The Signpost ones look fine. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 02:21, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike all the TAFI single articles we're promoting? Matthew (WMF) (talk) 04:30, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I should rephrase: With the TAFIs we promoting a community-wide project whose goal it is to improve WP in general, and those articles were selected by the community under that aspect. When @wikipedia starts to promote individual editor's projects focusing on a specific topic, it could easily be seen as unbalanced. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 15:12, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TAFI

  • T: Want to make your own Lego brand? Go to Lego Cuusoo. Want to better Wikipedia? Go to the "Lego Cuusoo" article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Cuusoo #TAFI
  • G/F: Want to help make your own Lego brand? Go to Lego Cuusoo. Want to turn today's #TAFI into a Featured Article on English Wikipedia? Go to the "Lego Cuusoo" article and join with other editors to improve it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Cuusoo
The first sentence in each read too much like advertising for Lego, IMHO. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 15:19, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I thought similarly, but the Lego Cuusoo article describes it as just that, you get to make your own Legos based on your own design. In that regard, it doesn't strike me as promotional, but factual. Matthew (WMF) (talk) 16:58, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good in principle, but the F/G could be polished a bit, e.g. "For the fourth straight year, Wikipedia ranks first in the ACSI customer satisfaction survey for the "Social Media" category. The 78% positive reviews for Wikipedia are well above the 68% category average: "

This one was already featured last month [6]. Also, the TAFI template has since been removed and it's no longer on the current TAFI list. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 07:37, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
