Talk:Communications committee/Call for members - March 2019

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Old story[edit]

Did you learn something from the killing off of the fundraising mailing list? The script seems the same, it would use a refresh. Nemo 23:54, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The two actions are unrelated. This announcement stems from multiple years of discussions with the current membership of the committee. Also, nothing is being "killed off" as the new Movement communications group will replace the existing committee list (as mentioned in the announcement you are commenting on). Do you have an idea to offer, or just this random commentary? --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 08:06, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Scope?[edit]

Is the scope still as set up in 2006? See: https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Resolution:Communications_committee/Scope

When I read the email; I perceived something different. Now I'm confused :-) Regards, Ariconte (talk) 00:14, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ariconte: Apologies that I did not see this earlier. That resolution has been updated with one which reconfigures the committee as a staff committee. There is more information about the history of the committee on the main Meta-Wiki page for the committee. So, the committee is indeed being provided a new scope, which the Communications department will work with the inaugural committee members to develop. I hope that answers your question, if you have any additional questions or would like more information - please post them here. Thank you! --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 01:42, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
