Talk:Community Wishlist Survey 2022/Mobile and apps/Table sorting on mobile

Wish completed by the Moderator Tools team[edit]

Hi! I'm the Product Manager for the Moderator Tools team at the Wikimedia Foundation. We're currently working on improvements to mobile web and picked this ticket up between our other work. You should now find that sortable tables are sortable on mobile web!

I'd love to know about other problems you're facing on mobile web. We've just posted some designs for an updated Special:Preferences UI which will enable us to make that page more accessible on mobile. Your feedback would be appreciated at Moderator Tools/Content moderation on mobile web/Preferences. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 08:45, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Samwalton9: There seems to be a problem on mobile if the table uses the "Static row numbers" template. After sort, there is one less row number at the top. See [1]. Tested using Android (Chrome & Firefox). Jroberson108 (talk) 09:47, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up Jroberson108! Am I right in thinking that static row numbers is an English Wikipedia specific table function? It seems to be defined with some local css, which includes specific entries regarding the Minerva skin. Pinging Guarapiranga and Jts1882 who worked on that style - I wonder if they might have any insight into whether this is a local css issue or something that we need to change in MediaWiki. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 10:28, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Samwalton9: Yes, it's a template used on the English site here Static row numbers. When I tested mobile sort on their template page, I couldn't reproduce the problem, so it may be unique to the table I provided or may require more rows than their examples have to reproduce the issue. I am attempting to look more into it. Jroberson108 (talk) 10:33, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Samwalton9: It deals with the "sorttop" class. On mobile, when sortable moves the "sorttop" row from "tbody" to "thead" after sort, the numbers become off. This issue doesn't occur on the desktop version. Jroberson108 (talk) 10:56, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Issue has been fixed per discussion. Jroberson108 (talk) 12:14, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, thanks for the update :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:27, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I've seen it since a few days ago but didn't realise it was a newly implemented feature. Would the developer also kindly work on Community Wishlist Survey 2022/Mobile and apps/Floating table of content on mobile web view? I would appreciate it soooo much. @Samwalton9 (WMF):. @Neocorelight: Thanks for the suggestion, I can definitely see how that would be helpful. That ticket looks like it would require a fair amount of time to investigate, design, and implement, and we're trying to only take on larger projects which are related to our team's scope (content moderation tools). Table sorting turned out to be a relatively small lift for us, which is why we were able to prioritise it, but to be honest I don't think we'll have capacity to prioritise adding a table of contents. @Samwalton9 (WMF) Thank you so much!!!!!! So glad to see this implemented!!! Reywas92 (talk) 03:48, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
