Hello. Could you, please, explain the sentence "The tool will be configured on the wiki so that you don't have to wait until the new version to add for examples templates or regular expression fixes."? I understand all the words, but can't understand what it's supposed to mean. I can guess that the second half means actually "you can work without waiting for something", but don't know for what, don't know if I'm right, and don't know what does the first half mean. Thank you. IKhitron (talk) 01:47, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious what I should imagine with "examples templates". The task only mentions "extra templates" but I'm not sure what that means either.
"The tool will be configured on the wiki" means that the configuration can be done by editing a page on a wiki, and the tool will load the page to work correctly. The pages are mentioned in the news entry.
"you don't have to wait until the new version" means that previously when your wiki decided to change some habit (delete a template for example), the tool would still work as if the template existed, and it could only be changed in the tool's code. Then, you would have to wait until the new code is released and available for downloading and installing. Now you only have to change it on the configuration page on wiki. Thanks, @Matěj Suchánek, I'm starting to understand. But if I did indeed, is there a manual for local configuration pages, that explains possible variables and values? IKhitron (talk) 11:46, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't succeed in finding one. I guess this is for discussion. You can perhaps assume the configs on enwiki and metawiki are valid. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 11:57, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not helping, because there are no explanations of templates there. IKhitron (talk) 15:43, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Matěj Suchánek, sorry for being unclear. This should have been read "for example templates", not "for example templates". I've rephrased it, having been alerted to the fact that it could be easily misunderstood. Also added a clarification about on-wiki configuration. Thank you for asking, IKhitron. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 11:03, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
