Prior knowledge of Wikidata[edit]

Last year some people were already very active on Wikidata while others had less experience with it. I think it would be good to have a short introduction and basic editing session right before the main event for those that have the feeling they could use it. Might get them a better running start into the main event. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:41, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tobias1984: excellent idea. --DarTar (talk)

Closed event ?[edit]

Why isn't this an open event? --Jura1 (talk) 15:34, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jura1: I don't see where it says that the event is closed. --Tobias1984 (talk) 15:43, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's by invitation only. How many people had been turned down last year? --Jura1 (talk) 13:57, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1 and DarTar: I am not one of the organizers. Maybe DarTar knows something about the number of participants? --Tobias1984 (talk) 18:14, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: this is not a closed event and it's definitely not by invitation only, it's an event with an open application process due to limited budget and capacity, like last year. This year, we fundraised to be able to double the size of the event and accommodate up to 100 participants, which is the maximum capacity the venue can host. Given the limited number of participants we can accommodate and travel scholarships we can allocate, we opened an application process asking people to explain how they'd contribute to the event, based on criteria listed here. When reviewing applications, we'll be taking into account not just the motivation but also diversity of contributors by project, gender and demographic as well as distribution of expertise. We opened a waitlist since we're still receiving requests to attend way after the deadline. I expect we'll be able to host about a half of the total number of applications and names on the waitlist, depending on how much the list grows in the coming days. Hope this helps--DarTar (talk) 04:06, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to be confuse to things: access to the conference (as in "who is allow to edit Wikipedia" - or Wikidata) and subsidies for participants. --Jura1 (talk) 03:34, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
