Election[edit]

The Python governance model includes several others aspects, but sure, I see no issue with electing 2 or 3 persons to serve the role of contacts + whatever else is needed. Thanks Eugene for stepping up! Nemo 18:36, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Maps[edit]

I like the idea of having a yearly event, and the name is sweet and short. It implies to me that it is about uploading images of maps to Commons, possibly including the usual enrichment for maps. This is a fine and noble goal which I would support. Is there also room for a yearly campaign which focuses on the use of Kartographer in our projects, and if so, what would be a suitable name for that campaign? Yeah, I wasn't 100% sure about the name because most people assume that "Wiki Loves X" projects are photography contests. But looking at other Wiki Loves X initiatives shows that this can be anything other than uploading photographs/images (or maps) to Commons. And Wikimedia Suomi had already used Wiki Loves Maps as a project name for a seminar/hackathon back in 2015. I hope that we as a user group can adopt "Wiki Loves Maps" as our flagship and annual project and decide what it should be. —seav (talk) 08:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wiki Loves Maps has been arranged two times in the past. One in Helsinki 2015 and one in Hønefoss 2016 both were connected to this user group or what would become this UG. There have also been plans on one in Stockholm but those plans haven't materialized because of first Wikimania and then COVID. --Abbe98 (talk) 09:10, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So, it's a meetup of some kind rather than an onwiki activity? Ainali talkcontributions 21:06, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, past Wiki Loves Maps have been in-person events, but if Wikimaps will now adopt the project name, I think this project can be anything the user group wants. —seav (talk) 00:58, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There have been two previous Wiki Loves Maps events. The first one was arranged in tandem with the first Hack4FI hackathon, see http://wikilovesmaps.wikimedia.fi/. The second one was arranged in Norway in the context of the Hack4NO hackathon http://wikimaps.wikimedia.fi/2016/11/05/maps-hacks-hack4no/. There is no reason the associate the name with historical maps only. I think I would love to see it connected to everything maps! –Susanna Ånäs (Susannaanas) (talk) 18:08, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to be bad at reading previous comments. sorry for that. But repetition is sometimes positive. Susanna Ånäs (Susannaanas) (talk) 18:09, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
