Talk:Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016/Structure/Poland

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi, I have been adding a few notable women, as their articles are one of the aims of the action.

Ass there was a discussion whether we should have a different category for the women (and I am not sure if it is actually that nice) I am just adding the marks showing that the person is female. Best, aegis maelstrom δ 14:42, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a list of topics, women are not one of them. For reasons you can check the tak page. Also there is a tool to create lists faster: Module talk:WikimediaCEETable. PuchaczTrado (talk) 19:30, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Aegis Maelstrom and PuchaczTrado:, I have added such code to the module. See the icons at Latvia page. --Voll (talk) 20:42, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Voll:, thank you very much! Nice automatization and it is great to see your ideas implemented in few hours, out of blue. I hope the fixed name width (18% seemed to be some OKish compromise, maybe 20% could be used) and the gender marks help - if we want we may add a male mark as well. :) Best Regards from a wiki-workshop in Łódź, Poland. :) aegis maelstrom δ 10:35, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Aegis Maelstrom and Voll: I think that it is rather obvious that we shouldn't have nay branding for women, just as we shouldn't brand Jews with David star or homosexuals with rainbow. Please remember about neutrality. PuchaczTrado (talk) 08:11, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @PuchaczTrado:, this is not a NPOV issue, but the deliverance issue; one of the agreed and declared aims of this competition are biographies of women. When I look at the objectives stated in the grant application, I notice that:
  1. It has been explicitly stated that there shall be categories with their subcompetitions;
  2. Articles about women are clearly stated in both possible and strategic goals and this is an official pledge of the organizers towards the community and the funding body.
As I am one of the grantmaking persons (albeit not anymore in the GAC process) and the Wikimedia Polska is co-organizing this event, I feel obliged to remind publicly declared goals - and as an Wikimedian I am happy to assist here. I think the solution proposed by me on Saturday is highly conciliatory; if you see other means to achieve the beforementioned goals, please follow. Perhaps @Лорд Бъмбъри and Magalia: have other ideas.

I like the idea of marking women on the list. It supports our declared goals and is very convenient - I know that some countries (including Poland) think about adding special prizes for people who write about women. That would make finding topics much easier for them. Thank you Aegis for this idea! Magalia (talk) 13:48, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
