Trouble with Aswiki project URLs[edit]

We requested for a ShortUrl extension used by some wiki projects but was redirected here. At the current state, this Wikimedia URL Shortener is a disappointment and doesn't serve the purpose of the community well. It's developed by wikimedia and that's the only benefit over third party sites. I tried to shorten this wikisource page and the result was . Then I erased the previous link and pasted this link but after clicking "shorten" the result stayed the same i.e. . So the page has to be reloaded for each wikipedia or wikisource link which is a tedious task. Gitartha.bordoloi (talk) 16:40, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

@Gitartha.bordoloi: I am not certain what you are trying to achieve, however, I think that you misunderstand the process/purpose of the project. A created shortcut is a one-time creation of a shortcut to that designated target. If you delete the target page, the shortcut is unchanged, and unaffected, it will still point at the target. Further attempts at a recreation of a shortcut to the target will all get the existing shortcut as it exists to the target  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:05, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@Billinghurst:, I didn't say anything about deleting. My logic was simple as stated above and I think you can reproduce that; I made a shortcut for a particular long link. Then I pasted another long link and clicked "shorten", but the previous shortcut didn't change for the later (these are 2 different pages). So the URL shortener project page had be reloaded every time I try shortening a new long link. Gitartha.bordoloi (talk) 07:07, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
@Gitartha.bordoloi:then it is a bug and you should report it in phabricator: and apply the project tag "MediaWiki-extensions-UrlShortener".  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:20, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
I think at the very least this is a UX/UI bug in the gadget and have opened phab:T226184 for it. — xaosflux Talk 13:49, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Abuse prevention has been added: the rate limit is 10 creations per 2 minutes for IPs and 50 for logged-in users. This rate limit is the reason why the tool is enabled only on Meta.

Does it respect NoRateLimit? — regards, Revi 17:05, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Expire time[edit]

Can I use short links permanently or there is some expire time for each link?--Bersam (talk) 10:33, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

As far as I know, it is permanent, and once assigned it does not change. — regards, Revi 10:50, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

TranslateWiki is not a Wikimedia project. (personally I'm in favor of migrate it to Wikimedia)--GZWDer (talk) 18:42, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
