Hi all,

Any suggestions for next month LexiSession? Noé (talk) 13:01, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for November[edit]

Wine Aroma in English.
Roue des arômes en français.

Hi,

As November is Beaujolais nouveau month, I suggest to target wine! This nice wheel illustrated on the right may guide to make nice thesaurus. In a way, it may be similar as the one made for cheese on French Wiktionary, with the required vocabulary to describe this world. Here oenology is a very dense field, so it may be very hard to harvest it in only one season. But I think it can be cool to start! Noé (talk) 09:40, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Noé. Very good idea for this topic. Indeed, the lexicon of oenology is really rich and so there is a lot of work. Pamputt (talk) 21:31, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A few English terms I can think of: flinty, oaky, flabby, quaffable (in wine-tasting); plonk, plonky, goon, bum wine, ink, dago red, Europlonk (bad cheap wine); wino, plonko (drinkers); glogg, mulled wine, red biddy (mixed wine drinks). Equinox (talk) 02:53, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wah, I've never seen any of those words! I am impressed to found all those in English Wiktionary and challenged to not find any in French Wiktionary! Great! Noé (talk) 14:16, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for December[edit]

Hi! I hope you haven't drunk too much wine this month! In the French talk page, Cbyd suggested for December: gift

I think it can be interesting to question how we connect nouns and verbs, gift with offer. Is it ok for you? Other suggestions? Noé (talk) 15:30, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible cooperation[edit]

Hi, I am no Wiktionary user but I think you could have some fruitful cooperation with Writing weeks. They are not just about wikipedia.--Alexmar983 (talk) 02:14, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

for example if the focus is "Canada", some users of enwikt or frwiki can improve the entries about canadian expressions. If it is "Asia", they can also create entries for concept such as local fruits or tools or animals that are already on wikipedia but not on wiktionary. And so on.--Alexmar983 (talk) 02:17, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that's a good idea. I didn't know about this initiative, but we'll try to support it in the future! Noé (talk) 14:01, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And they last almost a month, they are scattered on various projects with different timeline. I can leave a message to them as well to inform you.--Alexmar983 (talk) 16:01, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pronuncify[edit]

It's me again. here is a new tool I just discovered looking at my emails. I don't have great internet but it looks interesting, maybe you can suggest to explore it for a month.--Alexmar983 (talk) 02:14, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at commons this month[edit]

We proposed commons: Commons:Photo challenge/2017 - February - Multilingualism, maybe some pictures could be good for some Wiktionary entries.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:09, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New design[edit]

Hello!

I've update the page with a new display, shorter and more explicit on who did what. I hope it give a better understanding of the possibilities of LexiSession. It's almost a year now, and I am still up to continue this, but I want to make it more collective, in the choice of themes and in the process of spreading to more projects. I can write in English (almost) and in Spanish (quizas) but I can't present the project in German, Russian or Hebrew. Help welcome tho! Noé (talk) 09:54, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Next themes[edit]

Feel free to suggest next topics. No limit, it can be a wide theme or only one concept.

For September 2017, I suggest peace as September 21 is the International Day of Peace and October 2 the International Day of Non-Violence. Well, September is also the month when pupils go back to school, so it can also be a nice topic to look for school and related words. I prefer to make peace. Any opinion? Noé (talk) 08:09, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fine to me for peace. We will propose school next year ;) Pamputt (talk) 07:15, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For October 2017, I suggest punishment because the 10th of October is the World Day Against the Death Penalty. This year focus will be on poverty, and it is also an interesting topic. Any funnier suggestions? Noé (talk) 14:04, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For November 2017, I suggest toilet because the 19th of November is the World Toilet Day (no kinding). Any clever suggestions? Noé (talk) 14:11, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For January 2018, I suggest the most original theme, with New Year celebrations, from occident to orient, first of January to the 28th. Do you have a more inspired suggestion? Noé (talk) 17:56, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For February 2018, I suggest radio as the 13th of February is World Radio Day. Are you listening or do you want to swap to another frequency? Noé (talk) 15:07, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For March 2018, I suggested math in honor to 3/14, Pi Day! Do you think it's too large or do you prefer another topic? Noé (talk) 17:59, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For April, as suggested by Cbyd in the French version of this page, we can do mine or mining, as April was called Germinal in the French revolutionary calendar, and Germinal being the title of a book by Emile Zola about miners.
For May 2018, I we can keep strike because of May 68 historical background in France and elsewhere. Are you ok with this? Noé (talk) 09:35, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For November 2018, we may support Wikipedia Asian Month 2018 and pick something about this region of the World. Maybe trying to describe and structure the content around Asian languages? Noé (talk) 20:13, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For February 2020, I am back here in advance to suggest before to start a thematic, isn't that great? Ok, so we suggest guitar and piano Noé (talk) 11:28, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vector 2022 and wiktionaries[edit]

Noé, If Vector2022 = for all projects, how will wiktionaries stand? A mon avis/my personal worry: we need 2 things:

  • Contents full (to choose where to go) (I cannot see now at ?useskin=vector-2022 Only some headings)
  • Interwiki languages (every lang has different approach-sources-tradition. Mother language very important).

If vector2022→default, we will have to redesign microstructure of all pages to include the above. Too much work. Could wiktionaries discuss this? Merci. From el.wiktionary (Central) Sarri.greek (talk) 02:24, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarri.greek,
It is not the best place to have this conversation, as this initiative, LexiSession, is obsolete. Plus, there is no unity between Wiktionaries communities, and the User Group fail in gathering people to be a force in discussions. I suggest you to rather go to MediaWiki to start this conversation: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Reading/Web/Desktop_Improvements 🙂 Noé (talk) 08:10, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Noé. Coming from a small wiktionary, and with no experience like yours, of the administrators of the French or English wiktionaries, I think I must wait for a call to all wiktionary members, somewhere, to discuss, before going upstairs. Sarri.greek (talk)
Well, Sarri.greek, there is no one to make this call. We do not have any "product manager" or "referee" of any sort to call. There is no one in the Wikimedia Foundation staff dedicated to Wiktionaries. You can raise your voice in some village pump, it is a good way to gather people interested by a topic. You can participate in the spaces made by the dev team such as MediaWiki Talk pages or Phabricator. Or you can try to be elected in WMF board to make our voices heard. I suggest not to try User Group as a way to gather people, it was not a success in the past... Noé (talk) 10:44, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Merci M. Noé -I assume by your pseudonym that your are a man-, for your ideas. I do not know the bureaucratique ways, and I am too old of age. I understand that your position is difficult while fr.wikt is under an experimental phase for Vector2022. But always, people helped me and taught me, with personal contact. I follow the edits, the work of my mentors, of exceptional editors. Llike Erutuon: without his unofficial, unrecognized by some Board contribution, our little el.wiktionary would not have labels, declensions, and no Mycenaen dialect; also Trappist the monka Wikipedian took so much of his time to help me, without knowing me at all. I look at the work of Benwing2 when he reviews all templates, the comments in Rooms by you (although I do not understand French well), by Chuck Entz, by -sche and so many others. Are we not a community de facto? Thank you. Sarri.greek (talk) 12:14, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
