Wiki Advanced Training 2019[edit]

What?
CIS-A2K conducted the first Wiki Advanced Training on Wikisource to enhance the skills of Indian language Wikisource contributors. This was a three days workshop where advanced topics related to Wikisource were discussed.

Why?
From Year 2015, after implementation of Google OCR/Indic OCR and Indic Wikisource Community Consultation 2018 the Indic Wikisource projects have seen growth in activities across India. So it was right time to consolidate the progress with the community members and enhance the skills according to the specific needs of the projects.

When and where?
Wiki Advanced Training 2019 was conducted in association with Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics at Pune, on 11–13 October 2019. Total 21 Wiki-librarians participated in this event. 7 of the participants were female and 14 were male.

How?

  • 1st Day: During the WAT some of the topics discussed were: Basic Workflow of Wikisource, OCR process, layout with typography, Wikisource tools such as IA-Upload, Vicuna Uploader, URL2Commons, Fill index Gadget, advance proofreading templates and transclusion.
  • 2nd day: Proofread-thon/Transclusion-thon had been done within the partcipants. Next session was different kind of Library Classification for wikisource and then discussed about WikiData for Wikisource.
  • 3rd day: Scanning demo shown by Marathi Wikilibrarian from Viggan Asham. Next Omshivprokash shoown the archive.org implementation to wikisource as a showcase of Kannada Wikiource.

The way the detailed workflow for an indic language wikisource was narrated, with the comparative demonstrations was the most helpful part for me. I I genuinely appreciate the efforts of the organizers and the host institute, for this event. - User:Chinmayee Mishra
