CIS-A2K is presenting the impact report for the work-plan period 1 July 2018 – 30 June 2019 (please see the proposal and the work-plan). For this impact report, the time period for this report will be the full 12 months of this grant, including the period already reported on in the progress report. The document structure, including its sections, have been created following the instructions at Grants:APG/Report preload.
In this section, we'll (re-)introduce ourselves. We'll describe our parent organisation in brief, and discuss the journey of the Access to Knowledge program.
The Centre for Internet & Society or CIS is a registered non-profit organisation in India. It has its head office in Bangalore, Karnataka, and an office in Delhi. CIS undertakes interdisciplinary research on the internet and digital technologies from policy and academic perspectives. The official CIS website may be seen at cis-india.org. Access to knowledge started serving the Wikimedia communities in India focusing on specific language communities (we called this structure Focused language area or FLAs. So far we have closely worked with Kannada, Konkani, Odia, Marathi, Telugu communities). Other than the FLAs CIS-A2K provided general support and services to other Indian Wikimedia communities as well. From 1 July 2018 onwards we are gradually shifting from Focused language area (FLA) to Focused project area (FPA). Train the Trainer Program, an annual workshop to develop and improve Wiki-leadership skill among Indian Wikimedians
MediaWiki Training, an annual workshop discussing MediaWiki, how it works, different extensions, tools, gadgets etc.
Wikimedia in Education, introducing Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in universities and colleges such as Christ University
CIS-A2K Request page, a portal on Meta-Wiki where Wikimedians can make support requests under three categories: financial, non-financial requests and technical support.
