Is the www.1lib1ref.org still functioning?
[edit]Is the www.1lib1ref.org still functioning? I cannot reach it today, yet it's a key part of the #1lib1ref video produced for last January's event, and a useful shortcut address to give people. Nick Moyes (talk) 13:26, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi @Nick Moyes:, the redirect URL isn't working for me as well. I know the link is used in some key #1Lib1Ref announcements and promos, even for the upcoming 1Lib1Ref in May, and it's far less than ideal to have a key URL dead. The link belongs to Jake and I've pinged him about the development. He's currently travelling, fingers crossed he sees my message soon. Thanks for letting me know --AVasanth (WMF) (talk) 15:09, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I am giving a talk and live demo to a group of Librarians tomorrow, and wanted to include the link in a handout I'm preparing. It sounds like a glitch, rather than a plan not to keep the url, so I'll include it and hope it gets fixed soon. Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 15:17, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Contacting national libraries in southern Africa about Wikimania
[edit]Hello AVasanth, I talked w/ the Wikimania '18 coordinators about reaching out to librarians, archivists, and students in countries in S. Africa -- particularly those for whom this will be the Wikimania closest to home, to date. What do you think about reaching out to global and African networks via IFLA and other library networks, to specially invite them to bring students to the event, or host satellite events? –SJ talk 01:49, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Sj, it sounds like a great idea and I'm happy to help. And yes, we do have some good connections with those networks. I'll talk to the rest of the team and get back to you with more details. --AVasanth (WMF) (talk) 15:03, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Sj we are trying to organize an event during the preconference at Wikimania and I will be glad to learn how you may be willing to contribute or support plans for that. You can email me via fnarteywikimedia.org to further discuss the topic. Cheers --FNartey (WMF) (talk) 13:16, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Lovely to hear, thanks Felix :). I also tried to connect Karien B. @ Shuttleworth to the organizers. What do you envision for an event? –SJ talk 06:06, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- The event is dubbed Wikipedia 101 for Librarians, it will focus on exploring opportunities between libraries and Wikipedia and how to closely work together to achieve the sole purpose of providing a means to verify information and access to those who require them. The session will entail discussions on benefits of working together and trainings on Wikipedia and Wikidata. --FNartey (WMF) (talk) 16:58, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Re:Help
[edit]Hello; I have seen your message in the Arabic Wikipedia, about the needed help to translate letters for publishers. I am willing to help as long as this doesn't need a lot of time, as I am engaged in many other initiatives. Regards. --Mervat (talk) 16:50, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
