Welcome to Meta!

[edit]

Hello, Imbwiki. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!

Regarding the dispute you mentioned...

[edit]

As glad as I am to see another endorsement on a proposal that I think will make Wikipedia a better project, I think it might not address your problem directly.

That's the bad news. The good news is that there is already a place on Wikipedia where you can get the kind of help you described. Actually, there are several. Some are binding and others are not.

Did you try Third Opinion? It's specifically for disputes with exactly two people. There is also the dispute resolution noticeboard, which seems to hit your issue on the head pretty closely.

Seeking mentorship might also help for cases like yours. A more experienced Wikipedian probably would have been able to tell you that using Wikipedia pages as sources is against the rules per WP:CIRCULAR.

The noticeboard that RobertW and I have in mind would be similar to DRN (but more like RSN). It's a place for people to discuss sanctions (punishments, like topic bans and blocks), explore their options and prepare appeals. (In fact, discussing content disputes like the one you mention would be specifically disallowed there.) If you want to know whether you had the right to file a complaint against the other guy—or if the other editor filed one against you and got you sanctioned—then this proposal would apply to your case. RfC notice: Designated space for editors to give and seek advice about topic bans and other sanctions

[edit]

You are being contacted because you commented on the proposal for a designated space in which users, including topic-banned and other sanctioned users, could ask questions and seek information about topic bans and other sanctions, "IdeaLab/Area for topic banned editors to talk freely about their ban, e.g. to ask questions of experienced wikipedians." There is now an RfC in progress concerning this proposal. Your participation is welcome. Darkfrog24 (talk) 03:28, 24 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
