How to seek unblock on psWP[edit]
You asked in Requests for comment/Possible Homophobia on Pashto Wikipedia:
- Is it possible if I get unblocked [1]
You asked the administrator who blocked you to unblock. [2]. However, your request made a classic mistake. You are accusing an administrator of bias as part of asking. Administrators are not required to do anything, ever. He can just walk away. If you want him to do something, you will need to engage with him, and convince him that it's worth doing. So you have several possible choices:
- Negotiate with him. Perhaps apologize for the accusations, and then assure him there will be no problems from you if he unblocks you. The decision about those words should be up to the community, not him or you. He has his obvious opinion, and it was strong enough that when you insisted on your view, he blocked you. So you can back off, promise him not to edit contrary to warning, and that is a promise that all users really should make, with exceptions being few.
- (Then, if there is a disagreement, one seeks community advice and consensus, showing cooperation and collaboration. Accusing people of homophobia or anything else doesn't help.)
- The administrator thinks that Paktyan101, Lewal101, Adjutor102 and Adjutor101 are all the same person. Well? A steward can and might check. If you used more than one account, admit it so that you can move on. We understand that frustrated users, especially if they think they have been wrongly blocked, may create additional accounts. If you did this and don't admit it, it could be grounds for a ban, much worse than simply being blocked. Part of an unblock agreement might be that you will only use one account. If you did not use other accounts, just say so.
- Go around him. You cannot edit your talk page. Is there another user on psWP you could email for support? I was blocked on meta, and email was disabled, but was easy to get email enabled. I simply emailed a steward from another wiki. (See my block log here.) If not, you are isolated. That would be part of the problem. If you email another user who is not established, you may just get that person in trouble themselves. You may certainly email another administrator. Be careful though. If you email another administrator with complaint about the first, they may be inclined to ignore or reject your request. "Bad block" is hardly ever a good argument to make. "Unnecessary" can be much stronger, if you show that it is unnecessary. Never send an email that you think the person receiving would dislike. That could get email access cut off.
- Stop editing the project. It's a reasonable option. It may be more trouble than it is worth.
I recommend the first course of action, and you may attempt to engage with him on his Talk page here. If you go for it and fail, you can always opt for the second or third choices. Khoda Hafez. --Abd (talk) 19:05, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Abd: I'll give it a go but do not think it will help since Pashto wikipedia is more of an Islam preaching site than an academic outlet; if you see the page its disproprionately has articles on Islam and blocks any "critical" info to it. Anyways I have started working with Britannica and Pashto Academy Peshawar and Kabul University to produce a Pashto Britannica online so either way I am content Lewaal101 (talk) 02:32, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Great. I hope you are not surprised if psWP tends to have a bias shared by many Pashto speakers! I would be happy to look at specific cases, except for the problem that I cannot read Pashto and I don't find a handy translator. The WMF generally leaves control of the wiki to the local community that forms, which can be heavily biased toward the original administrative composition. You may have noticed that the steward Billinghurst asked for information about how administrators were chosen. You did not support him with information. Why not? (nor did the participating administrator... but maybe something was done by email that, of course, I can't see.) This is really difficult for a non-Pashto reader to find. I do research on wikis where I don't read the language, but I've always had google translation handy, and it is still a nuisance. --Abd (talk) 16:17, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Abd: I am not that tech savy so I did not know how to actually. I am Pashtun from both sides of my family, we are all not that biased and are quite an open minded people just have a few forceful extremists. Lewaal101 (talk) 06:50, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

- The question asked is not "technical." Administrator privileges are created either by a bureaucrat, if there is a local bureaucrat, or globally, by a steward. The question, rather, is about decision-making. How is it decided whom to promote to administrator? Usually, there is a page in project space for this, a place to request administrative privileges.
- From the bureaucrat's contributions log, you may be able to find the permissions request page. Contributions. He is active. Then there are the administrator contributions. Besides the bureaucrat, who is also an administrator, there are these:
- If you review the contributions of the bureaucrat, around the time when the admin was assigned privileges, you may find the request page. I was unable to find the page about the creation of ps.wikipedia (which may have created rights as part of the project creation). Nor was I able to find a permissions log assigning bureaucrat rights. This would probably have been in 2006. Normally, I could check much further, but not being able to read the logs is a handicap, everything is much more tedious. --Abd (talk) 21:30, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
