Wikisound is an unofficial recognized wikimedia affiliate working internationally to provide a collaborative work in creating sound composition using the available Wikimedia tools and other off-wiki application software’s for effective and efficient use of sound in Wikimedia sister projects.

The tasks would be carried out by Wikimedians that seek to promote and develop sounds in different languages and Wikimedia sister projects by providing audio files through the available tools created in the Wikimedia movement, as well as using external tools as a means of recording, conversion, uploading and linking.

Objectives[edit]

The User Group is an officially recognized affiliate in Wikimedia with the following objectives.

  • Gathering of sound editors.
  • Enhancing sound editors.
  • Uploading sound.
  • Linking sound.
  • Organising training for collaboration.
  • Meet ups to develop skills and experience.
  • Podcasting in native languages.
  • Language sustainability in audio free sharing.
  • Conference as SoundiConference
  • Sound verification and credibility.
  • Sound referencing.
  • Sound as Wikidata labels and lexes.
  • Native mentorship.
  • Categorisations and documentation of sounds.
  • Awareness campaigns on sounds.
  • Studio Processing and sound production in Studio.
  • Connection between Studio and Wikimedia Tools.
  • Enhencing Wikimedians with the appropriate sound equipments and accessories for recording.

Activities[edit]

The unofficial recognized is design to be conducting work related to Wikimedia movement in align to the terms of use and copy right. All audios and sounds are to be freely uploaded while its right of use is absolutely free base on Wikimedia Commons rights release attributions.

For the past decades since 2021, the members of the group and co-leaders have successfully completed over five different projects on audio, part of which include workshops, contests, online training, mentorship programs, and meet-ups.

The following are the kinds of events we would organizing

  • SoundiAthon formally known as Edithathon.
  • Meetups in local, Regional, and international.
  • Online and In-person training on sound compositions.
  • Wikimedia Sound Tools Awareness and Development.
  • Improving User experience.
  • Sound Contest in local, Regional, and international.
  • Sound Support program for editors and contributors (awards and recognition).
  • Mentorship Program in Language Wikis among local community and large.
  • Research methodology to obtain data, statistics, and information on wiki and off-wiki to help editors/contributors know where to contribute and the gap to bridge.
  • Outreaches to relevant organizations where sound is part of their tasks.
  • Sound Networks among Wikimedians creating division of work and specialization on sound related works.

Interested participants are encouraged to join by inserting their usernames below. Wikimedians with a keen interest in contributing with audio and sound in any relevant Wikimedia sister projects or language wikis can add their Wikimedia Usernames if registered with Wikimedia or add names if you are not registered individual with Wikimedia.
