Wikimédia Community User Group Madagascar is an organization composed by young volunteers ,with the aim of expanding all information about Madagascar accros new article creation or improving exist articles.The group promote exchange with african contributors and all contributors around the world and associate project

History

Created at the end of 2022, the community participates in joint activities on Wikipedia to integrate the movement, increase the number of contributors as well as the visibility of the community. And with other African countries, thanks to the Wiki Wake-up Africa initiative.

Goals

  1. to lead a community of volunteers to improve or write qualitatively and quantitatively on Wikipedia content and projects on Madagascar through various Wikimedia campaigns and projects;
  2. share the passion for contributing to Wikipedia and its other projects to promote access to free knowledge sharing in Madagascar,
  3. organising conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops and competitions in line with the Movement's vision;
  4. Work for greater equity in the Wikimedia movement by promoting the inclusion of women in the group in Senegal;
  5. work in partnership with national and international institutions to promote Wikimedia projects.

For the first time, the 2023 Madagascar Contribution Month was held. A workshop is being organized in the northwestern region of Madagascar, Mahajunga with about twenty new contributors to Wikipedia.

Wiki Loves Earth july 2023 photos contest

Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Madagascar Supported by the Wiki Wake Up Africa initiative, Madagascar organized for the first time Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Madagascar which took place from July 1st to 31st, 2023. It is the largest international photography competition on biodiversity whose main goal is to encourage the promotion of protected natural areas through Wikimedia projects (mainly the Wikipedia encyclopedia and its Wikimedia Commons media library). It is also an opportunity to raise awareness among Malagasy people about their own heritage, to create a close bond with it and to win prizes.

Two workshops are being held in two regions of Madagascar, workshops on contributing to Wikimedia followed by a photography outing. For this competition 229 photos were uploaded by a total of 27 first-time entrants (see statistics). Madagascar ranks 42nd out of 50 participating countries in terms of the number of images (see statistics).
