Wikimedia Community User Group Osun is a community of volunteers/wikipedians which aims to build a strong base and diverse volunteers in Osun State and also improves and promotes Wikimedia Foundation's free and open knowledge projects in Osun.

This group of volunteers will help build projects with high impacts by collaborating, partnerships and also working with mission-aligned institutions to promote established Wikimedia projects and sisters' projects. The community is also dedicated to recruiting, training and also organizing various online (Virtual), offline (Physical) activities such as: Workshops, Meet-ups, GLAMs, edit-a-thons and other related activities which will help to develop and bridge content and knowledge gaps in different/various Wikimedia projects thereby creating opportunities for people interested in volunteer work, and forming partnerships that will promote Wikimedia projects in Osun.

The group is open to membership by all interested individuals.

Objectives[edit]

  1. To introduce Wikipedia and its sisters project and also grow the Wikimedia Community in Osun.
  2. To encourage the use of Wikimedia resources, provide structured guidelines and code of conducts stated by Wikimedia as well as community representation in Decision making within the Movement.
  3. To improve content about Osun State and related topics in English and other Languages.
  4. To promote and improve Wikimedia projects and free Knowledge in general.
  5. To train and recruit newcomers to be Wikipedia Editors
  6. To synergize and collaborate with other affiliates, regionally and globally in the implementation of the 2030 movement strategy.
  7. To Invest in Capacity Building and leadership skills of members by helping them to build and to learn how to be a contributor to open knowledge.
  8. Organizing meetups, conferences, meetings, workshops and contests in line with Movement's vision.


Activities[edit]

  • Meetings: the user group will be organizing regular meet-ups for its members in order to exchange ideas and to find ways to support them to continue editing the projects in areas where they would need help.
  • Trainings/Edit-a-thons: to help new Wikipedians learn editing techniques, to create, translate and improve content in all Wikimedia projects or work on and develop a certain topic which will in return promote the project which will in turn create awareness about Wikimedia projects.
  • Editing contests: the group will be organizing editing contests to encourage existing regular editors to keep editing Wikimedia projects and also encourage non-members/users to join.
  • Photographic Contest and Trips: the group will also organize trips and contests to encourage users to upload and document files to commons which will be used in all Wikimedia projects.
