Statistics
Statistics in other languages: |
There are sources for statistics available about various Wikimedia projects. Please link to any you know of from this page. These statistics are limited to quantitative data; qualitative (non-numerical) data are excluded.
Groups within the Wikimedia movement collect many different statistical indicators for the purpose of evaluating the movement's work. These indicators live in many different dashboards and are cultivated by many different people. For information about raw data generated by Wikimedia projects, see Research:Data.
General-purpose dashboards[edit]
- Wikistats: key statistics such as pageviews, unique devices, editors, and pages, available both for individual project and cross-project
- For documentation, see wikitech:Analytics/Wikistats.
- The old version of Wikistats is no longer updated, but still accessible.
- Vital Signs: pageviews and unique devices per site, which are better covered by Wikistats (see early documentation)
- User agent breakdowns: information on browsers and operating systems used by site visitors
- Multilingual projects
- Additionally, WMF and others maintain a number of other ad hoc scattered statistics using Limn or other similar software, you have to hunt them around (try e.g. google:limn+site:wmflabs.org).
- Raw data powering those graphs is usually updated daily and visible at https://datasets.wikimedia.org/ ([1])
- Some links by topic: Research:Data/Dashboards
- http://language-reportcard.wmflabs.org/
- GLAM statistics [2] (NARA pilot)
- Gender Metrics from Humaniki
- Cultural Diversity datasets and statistics: Wikipedia Diversity Observatory
- Wiki comparison tool: a Google spreadsheet with data snapshots you can use to sort and filter wikis by various statistics. Documentation at mw:Product Analytics/Comparison datasets
- Monthly movement metrics: a set of key metrics reported each month to the Wikimedia Foundation board by the Product department.
- Wikimedia descriptive statistics [public] : a Google spreadsheet with data snapshots of monthly metrics with description of the sources and methods used to calculate them
Editing[edit]

- Most importantly: VisualEditor dashboards
- Some were apparently discontinued in February 2014 (e.g. Echo)
- Other VisualEditor-related stuff on grafana and elsewhere: [3] [4]
- Weekly Editing Dashboard
- Edit rate
- Flow use
- Gadget use on Wikimedia wikis
Traffic reporting[edit]
As of early 2016, the Pageviews Analysis tool is the most basic tool available for giving pageview reports on single Wikipedia articles to typical Wikimedia community members.
- Pageviews Analysis : If given the title of a Wikipedia article and a date range, this tool reports how many pageviews that article got in that range.
- Topviews : Most viewed pages of a project
- Mediaviews : If given the title of a media (image, video, audio etc.) and a date range, this tool reports how many pageviews that media request got in that range. You can also do a comparison of media requests across multiple files
External:
- Alexa traffic ranking, from the audience of multilingual users of Alexa's toolbar. (Note: not chosen to be 'representative' in any way; just from toolbar users.)
- Combined Alexa reach
