(Request) Scanner For a Week

I'm planning to organise Wiki Loves Onam campaign from Sept to October 2024. This campaign aims to enrich and document the diversity of the cultural festival Onam celebrated by the Malayalis all over the world. I have request an rapid grant for this purpose and it has been accepted
- What are the Proposed activities? (Give the detailed plan of action with timeline or links to the event pages)
The proposed activities are;
- Onam Celebration Documentation
- Photo Competition
- Workshop & Edit-a-thon
The proposed dates are from 1st Sept to 15th Oct 2024. More details are added on the grant proposal.

Hello @User:Kamarudheenelankur from your contributions I found that you are uploading good quality photos from mobile phone using the commons mobile app. The quality is bad when using filters.

- Also you are not geotagged the photographs. Why?
- Also what are the plans to geotag the photographs. Also how you geotag a photograph from a camera without GPS.
- It is more easy and better accuracy for geotaging to use mobile phones GPS other than DSLR/Mirror less camera. So why you need a camera for this purpose?
- Also what is the purpose of a laptop even you can upload from mobile phones ? that you already did.
- Do you have a list of bus stops in Malappuram district? with geo coordinates?
- What is your plan to add those to Wikidata?
- What is the license of that dataset?

ഓഫ് ലൈനായിട്ടാണ് കൂടുതലായും പരിപാടികൾ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചത്.
2017 ൽ എൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ തിരൂർ മലയാള സർവകലാശാലയിൽ വിക്കി പീഡിയ ശിൽപ്പശാല സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇതിന് പുറമേ 2015 ൽ ഫറൂഖ് കോളജിൽ നടന്ന ശിൽപ്പശാലക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകാനും സാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. 2022 ൽ കുട്ടശ്ശേരി PMSM കോളജിൽ വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്ക് ശിൽപ്പശാലക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകാൻ സാധിച്ചു. മാധ്യമ പ്രവർത്തന മേഖലയിൽ സജീവമായതിനാൽ വിക്കി പീഡിയയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് കൂടുതൽ വാർത്തകളും ലേഖനങ്ങളും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പോൾ മലയാള വിക്കിപീഡിയയിൽ സംഭാവന നൽകണമെന്നുണ്ട്. ആദ്യത്തെ പ്രൊജക്ടെന്ന നിലയിലാണ് മലപ്പുറത്തെ ബസ്സ്റ്റോപ്പുകളെ കുറിച്ച് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. തുടർന്ന് മറ്റു പല പദ്ധതികളും ചെയ്യണമെന്നുണ്ട്. ലാപ്ടോപ്പ് ആകുമ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് വയർ കണക്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത് കൊണ്ട് ഇൻ്റർ നെറ്റ് വേഗത കൂടുതൽ ലഭ്യമാക്കി ചിത്രങ്ങൾ അപ് ലോഡ് ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയും. ഇതിന് പുറമേ എഡിറ്റിംഗ് എളുപ്പമാകും. അത് പോലെ File name പേര് ചേർക്കൽ എളുപ്പമാകും. മൊബൈൽ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ക്വാളിറ്റി കുറവുണ്ട്. ക്യാമറയാകുമ്പോൾ നല്ല ക്വാളിറ്റി ചിത്രങ്ങൾ എടുക്കാനും സാധിക്കും. മാത്രമല്ല മൊബൈൽ അപ്ലോഡ് ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ നോയിസ് സംഭവിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എല്ലാവരുടെയും സഹകരണം പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
- Can you share the links of the programmes you organized?
- Also from your contriubtion history you are a very new user with no experience in wikipedia editing and very minimal experience in Wikimedia editing. So what is your plan to upload photographs into wikimedia commons? Can you share any kind of statistics ?
- In Mobile phones you can have 5G in Kerala to upload photographs. This is a good advantage over laptop so why you need a laptop ?
- Why you want to edit photographs ? to destroy the location or metadata ?
- 551,900+ files uploaded into wikimedia commons from mobile phones and you are saying that those are low quality photographs that is not true.
- How to geotag a photograph without GPS ?
- Mobile phones are good to take photos of Bus Stops and sign boards. It has built in GPS and 5G connectivity. Wikimedia commons mobile app is a very good app to upload photos into wikimedia commons. So there is no urgency in this request. --Ranjithsiji (talk) 09:38, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

- By using mobile you can take good quality photos with GPS location. By using a camera you cannot get GPS. In mobile phone you get a 5G connection or you can connect to a broadband using wifi. So there is no 2GB limit. If you are using a camera and a laptop then there is an additional task of geotaging all the bus stop photos that is overload. Above all you don't have enought experience in uploading photos using pattypan or any other tool. And you are not provided a dataset of busstops in Malappuram district, which is already availale in Wikidata. എനിക്ക് 5 ജി ഫോൺ ഇല്ല. ഫോൺ support ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. ഇത് പോലെയുള്ള വ്യക്തിപരമായ കാര്യങ്ങൾ പങ്ക് വെക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന് വേണ്ടിയാണ്? പുതിയ ആളുകളെ പ്രോത്സഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നനിന് പകരം അവരേ തളർത്തുന്ന നടപടികളാണ് സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നത്. പുതുതായി വരുന്ന ആളുകൾ പുതിയ project കൊണ്ടു വരുന്നതിന് ക്യാമറയും ലാപ്ടോപ്പും ചോദിച്ചപ്പോൾ തടസ്സം നിൽക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന് വേണ്ടിയാണ്? പുതിയ ആളുകൾ കടന്ന് വരുന്നതിന് എന്താണ് അസ്വസ്ഥത സുഹൃത്തെ. - I never discouraged you instead you are always welcome to contribute to Wikimedia projects. Also seeing this I feel glad. But to handle a project in Wikimedia you need experinece in various things like licenses, data format, categorization, references etc. You created your account in 2015 and did not done a single edit in Wikimedia commons before 2025. In 2025 July you joined into wikimedians of Kerala User Group and suddenly requested camera and laptop for a project. SUL indicated that you have only 178 edits and only 1 edit in Wikidata. So it is better to contribute more into the project and get used to the rules and regulations in Wikimedia ecosystem before doing a large project. Memebers of the user group are happy to help. In your upload history we can identify that you have a mobile phone with internet connection. So get some experience with it and go ahead. A laptop and a camera is not an essential requirement for contributing into Wikimeida projects. Also you did not answered my earlier questions asked above. So you already have tools to contribute. So this is not an essential request. I think due to these reasons we cannot allow this request. Show enough interest in contribution. Do take some photos with GPS and upload into commons.
