De taalcommissie van de Wikimedia-stichting leidt de ontwikkeling van een duidelijk beleid en documentatie voor nieuwe taalprojecten en hun voorstellen, het verwerken van deze verzoeken, ondersteuning en coördinatie van nieuwe projecten om het succes te optimaliseren.
Historisch was zij opgericht als een sub-commissie van de Special Projects Committee. Omdat deze commissie vervallen is, rapporteert zij nu direct aan de Wikimedia Board of Trustees.
De taal commissie handelt hoofdzakelijk voor het Verzoeken voor een nieuwe taal proces door verzoeken te beoordelen, advies te geven en eventueel de aanmaak van een nieuwe taal versie aan te bevelen bij de Board. Individuele Langcom leden zorgen ook voor de voorstellen om projecten te sluiten. Als U een vraag hebt (bij voorbeeld over een mogelijk verzoek voor een nieuwe taal versie), kunt U deze stellen aan talk page of direct aan elke commissie lid.

- Abigor, who was already inactive, resigned as a member.
Requests [edit]
- Assamese Wikisource - approved previously - was created on 3 January.
- The request for Minangkabau Wikipedia, Korean Wikiversity and Sanskrit Wikiquote were approved. The wikis (min:, ko:wv:, sa:q:) were created on 6 February.
- Wikipedia Laki was verified as eligible.
- Users asked whether the test-projects for Oriya Wikiquote and Oriya Wikisource were active enough for approval. They were not; but it turned out that the Wikiquote test on Incubator contains a large number of pages which rather belong to Wikisource (e.g. poems). The pages will still be moved from Incubator to OldWikisource.
- The request for Southern Azerbaijani Wikipedia was discussed, which tended to go into the direction of rejecting it.
- Prussian Wikipedia was discussed.
Other [edit]
- As announced in previous reports, Wikivoyages in Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Polish were created using pre-existing content from Wikitravel.

Inhoud [edit]
Het comité is belast met de volgende taken.
- De ontwikkeling en het onderhoud van:
- een duidelijk stap-voor-stap beleid (gebaseerd op kwantitative indicatoren) voor afweging voor de mogelijkheid van een nieuwe taal wiki's, met een geautomatiseerde methode voor project ontwikkeling;
- ondersteuning en ontwikkeling voor beleid voor scripts en locatie gerelateerde problemen;
- documentatie om nieuwe taal gemeenschappen te ondersteunen in stabiele groei tempo;
- ondersteuning en coordinatie van projects tussen talen, het helpen van kleinere gemeenschappen om krachten te delen en de resultaten te maximaliseren;
- ondersteuning en coordinatie om eenheid te behouden tussen de verschillende MediaWiki installaties, om de hoeveelheid ontwikkeling voor een revisie van het programma te verkleinen voor zover het localizering betreft;
- het verwerken van verzoeken voor nieuwe taal sub-domeinen van bestaande Wikimedia projecten, vooropgesteld het geeft de Wikimedia Board of Trustees een vier dagen waarschuwing voor een verzoek tot goedkeuring.
Doelen [edit]
The goals of the committee are to:
- minimize the political aspects connected to the release of new projects, moving the focus towards purely quantitative decision criteria;
- minimize the need of localization-related funding and development by providing a common shared policy;
- maximize the reuse of proven marketing techniques among different editions;
- maximize the co-operation level among different language communities by providing common fields of activity;
- achieve the widest possible localization level for MediaWiki at the lowest cost, in order to maintain and improve its leading role as an open-source content management system.
Transparantie [edit]
- The whole set of activities of the language committee is public, and any advice from the community is welcome.
- The committee values the fact that projects are a property of the single editors who make it and considers users' necessities as the primary source for policy.
- The committee is especially interested in hearing those who proposed a new wiki in the past and got either refused or approved.

Anyone can follow the discussions of the language committee by subscribing to the public mailing list langcom at lists.wikimedia.org, on which the internal proceedings are made. Non-members should generally not participate in discussions. When it is necessary however, they can send a mail which a list administrator will need to accept manually.
Prior to April 2013, the discussions happened on a private mailing list. From June 2011 to April 2013, members of the community could ask to become "langcom observers". They then received copies of the e-mails sent to the internal committee mailing list.
