If there is an active bureaucrat on the local wiki, please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:Renameuser on the relevant wiki. If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect.

[edit] Making a request for your own account

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formless request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point even if there's no community on the project. Ensure that you don't request renaming another user. Please make sure before posting your request here that the username that you want to have is still free. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to the user contributions, the account already exists.

If you want to have changed your username on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.

[edit] Making a request for an account that is not yours

If you want to have an account renamed because it's name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

  • I am an admin on kn wiki as ಶುಶ್ರುತ which is the same name as kn:User:Shushruth in Kannada script. I request that these two accounts be merged on kn wiki so that I can use Shushruth as my SUL. The local 'crat has been inactive for a long time. Thanks, Shushruth 15:30, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

  • confirm that You are Shushruth by logging in to ಶುಶ್ರುತ and leaving a note on the talkpage,
  • request the deletion of the SUL-account 'Shushruth' and 'ಶುಶ್ರುತ' (SR/SUL)
  • make sure to have a valid, confirmed email in the special:preferences of 'Shushruth' and 'ಶುಶ್ರುತ'

I have confirmed that I am in control of both accounts HERE. One quick question - would deletion of the SUL accounts in any way compromise my edit counts for either account? Thanks, ಶುಶ್ರುತ 06:50, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

No, the deletion of sul just delinks the accounts and thus disables global login, that would not affect edit counts. If there are edits on both accounts, that would be a problem, different accountnames on one wiki can't be merged, we can only rename from one name to another. So let us know if You want to be renamed from ಶುಶ್ರುತ to Shushruth or vice versa, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 12:26, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Done, Your accountnames have been switched on kn.wiki now, ಶುಶ್ರುತ became Shushruth and the old Shushruth became ಶುಶ್ರುತ (so You can have a redirect from there and don't loose the few contribs it has), Shushruth is now the fully active admin account there. Hi again. I was (not at all) successfully renamed to smihael but some edits (all edits made in December 2006 and January 2007) simply weren't moved to new account. See list of such a edits (approximately 500 out of 12 500 edits total (sl:Posebno:Contributions/Smihael). What can I do (local bureaucrats don't know how to merge this edits too)? And, why this happened? Hope you understand me, since my English isn't very good and I can't describe problem more in details. Thank you! Smihael 19:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

There's no way for us to merge the edits. I guess you just have to wait. AFAIK, software does move them eventually. If not, do report a bug on bugzilla:. --FiliP × 07:28, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

No, it isnt mine, no matter what writes, I cannot log in. Look, if I had ever had SUL for Nadina, then it must have been firstly deleted before I requested the rest 11 local usurpations/renames, some of which already successfully carried. The username is not found in the Global account log. And was registered on pdc before the date I chose the nick Nadina... Maybe another bug? :-) Nadina 21:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
But I worked it out! This is the date of automatic creation of de:User:Nad_bg which was today renamed as de:User:Nadina --Nadina 21:30, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Prologue

I am User:I on 22 wikimedia-projects (see: User:I/Matrix). But there are 5 more wikimedia-projects, where there is an User:I, but it is not me. First case is id.wp: The local community is working on an policy to ursurp username. So I will have to wait for this policy. Second case is pl.wp. The local community is working on a policy to ursurp usernames with a small number of edits. So I will have to wait for this policy. But there are 3 more cases left:

On April 22 I asked the local 'crat ja:利用者‐会話:Tomos for ursurpation of User:I. I got no answer. On April 26 I found the page ja:Wikipedia:利用者名変更依頼 and made a ursurpation request on that page. I got no answer. On May 6 I asked again on that page. But until now I got no answer.

In the meantime I got a support vote, but still no rename. --I 13:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

ko.wp

on April 22 I asked the local 'crat ko:사용자토론:ChongDae‎ for ursurpation of User:I. I got no answer, but within hours ChongDae registered his own SUL account. On May 7 i asked him again. But until now I got no answer.

A friendly user told me that there is no ursurpation policy on ko.wp, but the community is working on it. --I 08:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

sv.wikiqoute

Someone (not me) created User:I on sv.wikiqoute 10 hours after I ursurped the account at sv.wp. I thought this was pure coincidence and tried to contact a local 'crat about the matter. There are 2: Both have left the project, one actually left an "Elvis hast left the building"-message on his user page, the other stopped editing 2 years ago and came back only once to delete his user page. So I asked a local admin for help‎. q:sv:Användardiskussion:Thuresson is the only active admin and the only regular user on sv.wikiqoute. He replied once but was not helpful at all. The User:I made 3 edits: The first was a request for the deletion of page "Wikipedia". Until now this deletion request has not been decided. The second edit was on my user talk page. He wrote that I cannot ursurp his account, thereby making it clear that he knows about SUL and ursurpation. While I thought of coincidence until then, I now know that the account was only created to annoy me. The third and last edit of this account seems to be a relevant addition to an article.

The above user contacted me in April at Swedish Wikiquote. I am not bureaucrat, only administrator, so I cannot help with usurpation (I am though bureucrat at Swedish Wikipedia). Frankly I see no reason why the above user need an account at Swedish Wikiquote or why usurpation should take place when he or she do not understand Swedish and can not contribute in any meaningful way.
