Requests and proposals Request an account on Foundation wiki Archives (current)→
Shortcut:
WMFACCOUNT
This page is for requesting the creation of a user account on the Wikimedia Foundation's website (not on any other wiki).
  1. To ensure that users are already familiar with the policies of at least one Wikimedia project, only administrators either current or former, foundation committee members or local chapter members may apply for an account. If you are not already an administrator, please see the request for adminship page on your local wiki (this should be linked from Wikimedia projects). Creation of an account is not automatic and is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.
  2. To ensure that requests are not forged, only registered users on meta can submit requests. Please keep this page on your watchlist and check back on your request; you may be asked for more information before a request is accepted or rejected. If you do not respond, your request may be removed.
  3. After seeing your request fulfilled, please archive your section. Thanks!

Please provide:

  • your username. For example, Username, [[:xx:project:namespace:User name]]
  • a valid email address (Not Special:Emailuser)
  • the reason(s) you need an account
  • your dated signature

Please note, you do not need an account on the Foundation wiki to help with translations. All translation is being done here on meta. Users that are not already involved in translating may be rejected due to lack of involvement. See Translation requests for further information.

If this page hasn't been looked at for a few days and there are requests waiting, please ping via e-mail the Wikimedian who is supposed to handle it.

Thank you for your interest!

Wertuose

  • I'm an administrator of Azerbaijani Wikipedia: az:User:Wertuose
  • Email address: el_gunatrambler.ru
  • Reason: to translate the 2009 fundraising messages.
  • Comment Comment - Please note that translating is done on Meta and translatewiki not on the foundationsite. Huib talk 11:30, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
  • I want to create an azerbaijani language version of this page [1]. And it seems that it's possible only on the foundationsite. Wertuose 12:05, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
X mark.svg Not done The translation of such pages does happen here on meta, and then are then copied over. I myself am not totally sure where that kind of thing gets translated. I suggest you contact the translations committee and ask them where to translate. Thank you for helping with translations; they are always needed. —Sean Whitton / 19:01, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
The workspace for translating the fundraising pages is linked from the Meta sitenotice... Fundraising 2009/core messages. Cbrown1023 talk 21:59, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
    I fail, thanks Casey. —Sean Whitton / 09:33, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Jokestress

  • Wikipedia editor since 2004: en:User:Jokestress
  • Over 19,000 edits, started over 1,100 articles (mostly requested biographies)
  • Notable Wikipedian: see Andrea James
  • Email address: jokestressatgmail.com
  • Reason: to assist with further interwiki collaborations (between languages and projects). I serve on three nonprofit boards and have a marketing background. I made this request after looking at how fundraising and communications are handled. Jokestress 06:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment Comment - User is not a administrator on a wikimedia project and isn't a chapter member so the rules say she can't get a account but I have no problems whens she would get one. Huib talk 11:28, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Could you explain what you think you need an account to achieve? Interwiki collaboration tends to occur between our actual projects, whereas the Foundation wiki is an information website for outsiders rather than a free reference project. Thanks. —Sean Whitton / 19:01, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I was just going to see if I could assist with anything. I wanted to add a comment about the fundraiser banner and was directed to this page. No problem if I don't meet your qualifications. Jokestress 02:55, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
You don't need an account to leave comments, comments go here on Meta: Fundraising 2009/Launch Feedback. Cbrown1023 talk 03:56, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
When I clicked http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Talk:Support_Wikipedia/en I was unable to log in and leave feedback, and there was no indication of where I could make a suggestion. Perhaps you can place pointers there as well as on other language projects. That was my main suggestion. Jokestress 04:36, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Kwj2772

  • Wikimedia projects where I am an administrator: commons:User:Kwj2772 & q:ko:User:Kwj2772
  • Email address: kwj2772atgmail.com
  • Reason: to fix syntax to render Korean properly. Same style with English version might not be suitable for Korean. (e.g. We don't prefer Italic; and because of property of Korean script, extra style might be needed, something like padding). Thank you. Kwj2772 (msg) 05:02, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Given the unique textual challenges of rendering non-Latin characters, I would concur in this request as not being a translation request, but rather a stylistic formatting request. Further, his extensive crosswiki experience at [2], gives me confidence that he is adaptable enough to work in an environment like the WMF-wiki. MBisanz talk 23:54, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
  • It sounds like a good idea to get you involved for this. Would you be able to provide links to situations where you have been involved in a position of responsibility (other than, obviously, your administratorship)? I don't know you, and so I need some way of being able to tell that you can be trusted with our public site. Thank you. —Sean Whitton / 19:01, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
    • In fact, I have no position other than adminship. Kwj2772 (msg) 00:29, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
      • For what its worth I completly trust Kwj2772 and know for sure it will be a good thing to give him a account. Huib talk 19:04, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
        • Endorse as well; this seems like a sufficiently useful and specific task to justify giving them an account. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:33, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

You do not need an account to translate. Please see the sitenotice on this website (look up), it links to Fundraising 2009/core messages (the "Translations" part) – that's where you can translate into Georgian. Cbrown1023 talk 21:34, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
