I am planning on expanding multiple stub articles of internationally established contemporary artists.
Sprueth Magers is an internationally renowned contemporary art gallery, their website contains a lot of factual information on many of these artists, such as exhibition dates, press releases and a huge archive of all shows the gallery has ever had. I am not sure why it is currently blacklisted, but unlisting their website would certainly help make improvements to a lot of artist articles. I would consider it a citable source, if used correctly. Looking forward to hear what you think, thank you.

The associated page is used by the MediaWiki Spam Blacklist extension, and lists regular expressions which cannot be used in URLs in any page in Wikimedia Foundation projects (as well as many external wikis). Any Meta administrator can edit the spam blacklist; either manually or with SBHandler. For more information on what the spam blacklist is for, and the processes used here, please see Spam blacklist/About.

Proposed additions
Please provide evidence of spamming on several wikis. Spam that only affects a single project should go to that project's local blacklist. Exceptions include malicious domains and URL redirector/shortener services. Please follow this format. Please check back after submitting your report, there could be questions regarding your request.
Proposed removals
Please check our list of requests which repeatedly get declined. Typically, we do not remove domains from the spam blacklist in response to site-owners' requests. Instead, we de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their value in support of our projects. Please consider whether requesting whitelisting on a specific wiki for a specific use is more appropriate - that is very often the case.
Other discussion
Troubleshooting and problems - If there is an error in the blacklist (i.e. a regex error) which is causing problems, please raise the issue here.
Discussion - Meta-discussion concerning the operation of the blacklist and related pages, and communication among the spam blacklist team.

Whitelists
There is no global whitelist, so if you are seeking a whitelisting of a url at a wiki then please address such matters via use of the respective Mediawiki talk:Spam-whitelist page at that wiki, and you should consider the use of the template {{edit protected}} or its local equivalent to get attention to your edit.

Please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment. This leaves a signature and timestamp so conversations are easier to follow.

Completed requests are marked as {{added}}/{{removed}} or {{declined}}, and are generally archived quickly. Additions and removals are logged · current log 2024/07.

SpBot archives all sections tagged with {{Section resolved|1=~~~~}} after 7 days and sections whose most recent comment is older than 7 days.

Proposed additions

This section is for proposing that a website be blacklisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section, using the basic URL so that there is no link (example.com, not http://www.example.com). Provide links demonstrating widespread spamming by multiple users on multiple wikis. Completed requests will be marked as {{added}} or {{declined}} and archived.

It's being cross-wiki spammed in a sneaky way with newly created single-purpose accounts, mostly accompanied by legitimate links like ibm.com and a machine-translated text to hide the spamming. I cleaned it from 15 wikis yesterday. I had done a cleanup of multiple wikis a few weeks ago as well. A few examples: [1] [2] [3] [4] Tehonk (talk) 22:46, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Good catch, I can see that they have been doing that sort of rubbish drop since 2021.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:13, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst Thanks, I noticed adding ".com" and ".co.uk" domains to the regex could be useful as well, see: [5] Tehonk (talk) 04:53, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done I had thought about it and had checked to see nothing extra. I have reduced the regex to just the stem of the domain.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:12, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comment Comment looking at the user's edits, one would say that the editor is link spamming quite a range of urls. Will need to dig through the user report and find the domains that they are spamming.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:43, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst:: other urls spammed by Olvidamex are:

There were yet two other urls, but they give a 404. Wutsje (talk) 13:21, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposed additions (Bot reported)

This section is for domains which have been added to multiple wikis as observed by a bot.

These are automated reports, please check the records and the link thoroughly, it may report good links! For some more info, see Spam blacklist/Help#COIBot_reports. Reports will automatically be archived by the bot when they get stale (less than 5 links reported, which have not been edited in the last 7 days, and where the last editor is COIBot).

Sysops
  • If the report contains links to less than 5 wikis, then only add it when it is really spam
  • Otherwise just revert the link-additions, and close the report; closed reports will be reopened when spamming continues
  • To close a report, change the LinkStatus template to closed ({{LinkStatus|closed}})
  • Please place any notes in the discussion section below the HTML comment

The LinkWatchers report domains meeting the following criteria:

  • When a user mainly adds this link, and the link has not been used too much, and this user adds the link to more than 2 wikis
  • When a user mainly adds links on one server, and links on the server have not been used too much, and this user adds the links to more than 2 wikis
  • If ALL links are added by IPs, and the link is added to more than 1 wiki
  • If a small range of IPs have a preference for this link (but it may also have been added by other users), and the link is added to more than 1 wiki.

Proposed removals

This section is for proposing that a website be unlisted; please add new entries at the bottom of the section. Use a suitable 3rd level heading and display the domain name as per this example {{LinkSummary|targetdomain.com}}.

Remember to provide the specific domain blacklisted, links to the articles they are used in or useful to, and arguments in favour of unlisting. Completed requests will be marked as {{removed}} or {{declined}} and archived.

See also recurring requests for repeatedly proposed (and refused) removals.

Notes:

  • The addition or removal of a domain from the blacklist is not a vote; please do not bold the first words in statements.
  • This page is for the removal of domains from the global blacklist, not for removal of domains from the ===blacklists of individual wikis. For those requests please take your discussion to the pertinent wiki, where such requests would be made at Mediawiki talk:Spam-blacklist at that wiki. Search spamlists — remember to enter any relevant language code

I am the owner of this domain, and yes I have read the page where it says that domain owners will likely be denied having their sites removed from the blacklist. I am an internationally awarded and exhibited artist, and my photography has been exhibited in museums in the USA, South America, and in Asia. Recently I was contacted by an editor who wanted to cite one of my recent photography projects on a page he is writing about a narrow topic (Negative Image Photography)...it is good quality and interesting content. He was unable to do so because my site is on the blacklist, so he emailed me directly.

I was not aware that my site has been blacklisted but one of your moderators responded to him that my site was banned because the "site owner" had spammed. You can see the conversation here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist#andrewprokos.com/photos/inverted-uae-series/.

It appears that my site has been blacklisted due to spam back in 2008...15 years ago now! At the time I had hired an SEO optimization service to build up my web presence and I think that that was probably the source of the spam. That was many years ago now and I am still paying for whatever they did apparently. How many articles could have benefited from citing my work since then? Isn't 15 years on this blacklist sufficient?

I created my own account today because I wanted to upload a current portrait of myself. The photo used in the Wiki article about me is ancient and it doesn't reflect what I look like now...but it appears that I am prevented from even doing that as when I submitted the image it told me the domain url with the image was banned! I completely understand that the spamming 15 years ago may have merited being added to the blacklist, but that was then and this is now...I am on a whole other level as an artist with major exhibitions, publications, interviews, etc, and there is need for editors to cite my work from time to time.

I think that the quality of the website and content should be a factor in deciding whether it should be removed from the blacklist...the site clearly contains high-quality content and there are no ads running on the site (the site has been ad-free since I started it 21 years ago). What is the likelihood that spamming is going to happen again after 15 years have passed? I appreciate your time and consideration of the matter from this exasperated site owner!

nothing to do here @Andrewprokos: The domain is not globally blocked on all WMF wikis, only enWP. You will need to talk to them about their blocking, though it seems that you have already done so. Defer to w:en:Mediawiki talk:spam-blacklist  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:03, 30 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Interesting, I didn't realize that. I have not spoken with anyone, the editor working on that page requested it and it was denied (the link I added above to talk page). Thanks for your help
Andrewprokos (talk) 13:59, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Soem guidance about whitelist. The enWP whitelist would be used to allow the use of the domain if it was globally blocked here; or it would used to allow a specific url of the domain if they had blacklisted it. If you were asking for the removal of the domain at the whitelist, that is the wrong place for the request, you should make the request at the link I provided above.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:55, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did that...not sure if it's pending, declined, or they're thinking about it - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist#Proposed_removals Andrewprokos (talk) 22:32, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

CEO Blognation

I am the owner of CEO Blognation website. It is a community of blogs for entrepreneurs and business owners. Started in much the same way as most small businesses, CEO Blog Nation captures the essence of entrepreneurship by allowing entrepreneurs and business owners to have a voice. CEO Blog Nation curates content and provides news, information, events and even startup business tips for entrepreneurs, startups and business owners to succeed.

This website has high-quality content. I request you to un-list this website from Blacklist. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blue16marketing (talk)

Declined My review of the domain's additions through the wikis shows that every addition has been reverted. I don't think that we need to undertake any further conversation, though I would encourage you to read about paid editing and conflict of interest editing as they seem pertinent points to raise.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:20, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Troubleshooting and problems

This section is for comments related to problems with the blacklist (such as incorrect syntax or entries not being blocked), or problems saving a page because of a blacklisted link. This is not the section to request that an entry be unlisted (see Proposed removals above).

Discussion

This section is for discussion of Spam blacklist issues among other users.

"jun88" gambling spam

Note that I have just blacklisted jun88.land for the typical gambling spam in sport articles, and I can see some other variations of the regex in the space, though nothing active. If people can please keep a watch out and we can deal with this further as it surely will expand. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:03, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
